Installing a new Kenwood receiver and after getting all the wiring figured out with the Metra adapter 70-1784 harness, I went to put it in with the metal sleeve on and it didn't seem like it fit in the hole/slot?

These are the typical sleeves one gets with a new stereo that the head clips into locking it in the slot.

Do these in fact get installed with the receiver or not?
If yes, is it a matter of fudging it in or maybe filing out the hole a tad?

If by chance not, what holds the receiver in place?

I was at the point of attempting this at dark last night but the skeeters chased me inside. At first it didn't "seem" like it was gonna fit without some encouragement leading me to believe maybe it doesn't. But I haven't been able to search any threads that has the slightest mention of the actual physical receiver insertion step.

I wanna get this wrapped up then tackle my turn signal switch replacement...:givemebeer:

It's tight, but it'll go in there. Mine was a bit tight, too, when I was installing my Alpine a couple of months ago and I did a little bit of filing around the edges to make the sleeve fit.

ditto the Pioneer I installed, snug, but it fit. be careful which tabs you bend to secure the sleeve, as in places, the 'wall' of the opening is fairly thick, and if the tab buckles and protrudes into the stereo opening you'll have real trouble getting it in.

I do remember on one single-DIN mount car, I had to use a triangular rat file to clean up the corners of the opening or the sleeve wouldn't sit flat in there. I don't remmeber which car that was.

Offhand, they appear to be universal...but they are not. I left the one in there from my old HU to save time and didn't install the Kenwood sleeve. It works, but has never really locked secure like it's supposed to.

It's weird, because when you put them side by side, they look soooo close. But there are some small differences...enough that you really need to use the one that comes with your HU.
