Well here we go again. Just when I thought I had my 126 addiction under control I went out and bought another project. I could not resist. Good thing I am not married! Here is the scoup, a small car lot was needing to move some cars immediately (like today) and I noticed this car advertised as a 1986 MB 560sel. As I looked at the photos it looked like a Euro car. So I went out there and took a look. Yes it was Euro and a 1986 SEL. This lot bought it about a year ago and didn't know what it was as they specialize in $1500 to $3000 cars. Fired right up, engine was super quiet, drove this car and tranny was fine, radio got stolen off the lot, so here is what I know so far.

Good - Interior all there and leather just needs Leatherique.
All glass is good - windows go up and down
heater worked fine
heated seats front and back worked
motors in front and back seats work
Oil pressure near 5
temp little above 80
body and paint - good but not pristine
Euro lights and bumpers
ortho front seats
All wood good - no cracks
Antenna went up and down
No factory SLS
has switch on transmisson for 1st gear start
has import sticker for importer (didn't write that down)
All interior controls in german
Dove gray leather interior
Overall a 7 out of 10

Bad - AC compressor would not kick on
can't get the trunk to open - maybe valuable stuff in there?
big vacuum leak - gauge barely moved - brakes worked well but need time to charge up the master
no radio
sunroof made all the right sounds but no movement
cracked (broken) glass on passenger side euro headlight - anyone have an extra?
glove box will not open - maybe valuable stuff in there?
on small crack in dash - about an inch or so
stolen hood star
exhaust leak

The best part of the deal is that I bought the car "out the door" tax, title transfer and 1 year of tabs for $900. Impulsive? Yep - Addiction - Yep, but who would not have bought this car? I had to do it. Either I am a little bit smart or need some serious counseling.

My first step is to put my 18" Works staggered wheels on this puppy and see what I got. The Works just didn't work on my SEC so my rational was to find a car for my expensive wheels. I think I am smart.

Here is the VIN if someone could please run a build sheet on the car.

As we know the Russian site is not active.

New wheels, little mechanical, my super paint detail, little touch up paint and lower this machine = another saved 126. Here are some phone pic's. Will pick this car up tomorrow.

Nice grab! But it's mis-badged. According to your vin it is a 420. I'll post up the build sheet in a few.

Congrats anyway

LOL AWESOME DEAL...I have an addiction as well. I told my wife that I would seek therapy, as soon as she would sign up for some help from buying all of those shoes that she never wears!
Maybe its just me, but one of the most fun MB's that I ever had was a 500SE Euro.

PS...knock on the trunk before you open it..LOL

Nice lookin machine. The Euro's just have a certain look that is unmatched in a stock machine. Wouldn't have said that 6 months ago but have been schooled and now its hard to go back. Sometimes my SEL looks sad with US lights.

Thanks MB Mike for running the VIN. I assumed since it was badged a 560 and the rear seats were heated and adjustable that it truely was a 560. I will most likely pick up the car over the weekend. Like I mentioned the car lot had no experience with Mercedes. I should have looked at the title doc's. I paid the guy 1/2 and told him I would pay the balance when I pick it up. That explains why it doesn't have SLS. My thought was that maybe the Euro cars didn't have SLS. I still think it was a good buy. Appears to have been a North West car most or all of its life, i.e. all the rubber seals are good, no rust and paint still has life to it. Anyone know the HP difference (if any) of a euro 420 vs. US 420?

Did a search on the euro 420 hp spec. , appears to be about the same power as US 500 / 560.

I think Euro 420 is 4,196cc, 92 x 78.9mm, V8-cyl SOHC, type M116, Bosch fuel injection, 231bhp at 5400rpm: 247lb.ft torque at 4000rpm while the 500/560 were M117 with 4973cc and 5547cc respectively.

For the 500 it was 4,973cc, 96.5 x 85mm, V8-cyl SOHC, type M117, Bosch fuel injection, 240bhp at 4,750rpm; 296.6lb.ft at 3,200 rpm (to spring 1981). 231bhp at 4,750rpm; 298lb.ft at 3,000rpm (from spring 1981 to October 1985). 245bhp at 4,750rpm; 286lb.ft at 3,750rpm (from October 1985). 184bhp at 4,500rpm; 247lb.ft at 2,000 rpm (US models).

And for the 560, it was 5,547cc, 96.5 x 94.8mm, V8-cyl SOHC, type M117, Bosch fuel injection, 300bph at 5,000rpm; 325lb.ft at 3,750rpm (non-US models). 272bhp at 5,000rpm; 307lb.ft at 3,750rpm (US-models).

But, I could be mistaken :)

Cheers
