100K/20yrs is an interesting cross-roads. It's why my car's PO got out.

Here's what 100K and 20 years look like on the maintenance side.
  • Oil & filter change (Liqui Moly 2043 MoS2 Anti-Friction 10W-40 /Mann HU 718)
  • Bosch Dual Platinum Spark Plugs FR8DPP33+
  • Bremi Ignition Wire Set
  • Bosch Voltage Regulator
  • Bosch Crank Position Sensor
  • Bilstein B4 Struts w/Febi-BILSTEIN Strut Mounts
  • TRW Control Arms w/bushings and ball joint
  • Zimmermann Brake Discs
  • Jurid Semi-metallic Front Brake Pads
  • Bilstein Steering Damper
  • Door Check Straps
  • Breather Cover Reseal
  • Continental ContiTech Serpentine Belt Drive Component Kit
  • Bosch Fuel Filter
  • Transmission & Differential Service
  • Crankcase Breather Hoses
  • Cleaned throttle body
  • Replaced door mid-range speakers
  • Recovered door speaker grills
  • Flushed brake fluid
  • Flushed coolant
  • Borg Warner Coolant Thermostat
  • Upper/lower radiator hoses
  • Polished out wiper scratches on windshield
Here's my todo list.
  • Flex discs
  • Hubs (play at 6 & 12 o'clock position - hubs have been adjusted to .02MM end-play)
  • AC Compressor
Me and my wallet are getting tired. I think I'll take a break from the maintenance work and just enjoy the sunny weather with the top down and my wife by my side.

Nice maintenance list. It should be a lot smoother now, in many ways. And you’re right, the PO should have done these over a couple years to keep the hit on the wallet down. 100k miles should be nothing. You’re on the path, keep that car running!

Great job 👍

You see the second to last photo. The large fuel hose between fuel pump and tank might have 5 years left at most, if it hasn’t already been replaced. Fuel smell when you open the drivers door or from rear is tell tale sign.

But I have my dought about these two.
The great plug debate...I went with OEM...FR8DPP33+.
Bremi is made by Karlyn...German, if that counts for anything. The lengths were all correct and I got a good positive feedback...snap, when installing.

And for the record, I cleaned the head threads, used anti seize and dielectric grease in the boot :)

How’s the engine liking the mos2 10w40? Any performance difference? Noise reduction? I think I’m gonna use it too next oil change

AFAIK it’s not an approved Mercedes oil.
Also according to Liqui Moli it’s meant for older engines with solid lifters.
I was told some years ago by Mercedes Technical that friction additives invalidate the warranty. Not that this is an issue here, but the reason was, among other things, it affects the performance of the oil pump and can cause the oil to froth.

I drove the car maybe 20 miles before changing oil. Not knowing the cars oil history I've been looking for leaks where there weren't any. None to report. Runs quiet, in fact, it was idling in the garage after the ignition wire install and I got side tracked and didn't realize it was running until I got on top of it.

Yeah, but the cars he was using it on do not have catalysts.
Molybdenum and sulphur will not do your catalysts any good.

Mercedes has additional requirement to ACEA A3.

Anyways, the Liqui Moly product datasheet says it’s ‘tested safe with catalysts and turbochargers’...
and
says that while the info on the sheet is reliable, it is not legally binding. In other words not proven.
Kent has always been a pioneer. I’ll let him be the guinea pig a while longer.
Right now, it’s snake oil.

Yep , massive con , nothing but a gimmick .

A mechanical engineer who researched tribology tested over 200 oils for HTHS oil film strength .

And Liqui Cony was not up there , far from it .

Liqui moly as a brand or this specific oil? Because various liqui moly oils have multiple manufacturer approvals. Doesn’t mean they’re the best but definitely not garbage. Good thing about them is taking advantage of free oil changes via fcp euro

20 years or 100 K miles should not be a “cross roads”. They are just numbers. That’s only 5000 miles a year. If it’s maintained properly they’re just numbers. No reason to “get out“.
