How long before the gtg in the frozen tundra?
Yes....4" of styrofoam insulation gives an R20 factor. They call it a "frost pit". It's in the areas That I couldn't get below 4'.

Turns out.....1" of insulation is worth 1' of dirt.

When I did the extension at my house the pumper cost me more than the cement but there's no way I could have done the job without it.

LOL. It started 3 weeks ago. 6 days of excavation / dynamite alone.
Should be commissioned by Sept. 30. Fingers crossed.
The truss company is 8 weeks behind because they had a COVID outbreak....they are saying delivery Sept 1.
Looking for alternatives.
We'll all be glad when this Covid stuff is over

It'll never be over Graeme
HIV infection currently stands at nearly 42 million globally with 794,129 deaths so far this this year (33 more in the time it took me to type this)
We have learnt to live with it, or not
What has changed is the media

Nobby, are they all retaining walls, or foundation walls?
Great to see something rising up out of the ground that is to be your home

Yes? My house will be built on them while they retain the dirt and water outside?

Lol, wasn't sure if earth will be moved back onto those walls or if they are just supporting
Majority of our domestic housing is floating slab these days, brick veneer on top of that
Finding your construction interestingly different

Many Canadian houses have basements or cellars ( to house furnaces in the old days). No heating and your pipes freeze ! I built a house in Sydney with a full basement under ground level on one side (sloping block). It was a copy of a 1920's Montreal town house I owned when I was in Canada.
