:banghead:Went to the dealer to get a new key for my 08 GL450 because it only came with one key from used car dealer. Paid $375 and need to take it back for programming. The dealer said it would take over 4 hours to program a spare key. I have had other keys ordered and programmed thru MB and it only took minutes, so I question the 4 hours.
Has anyone had a new key made for their GL and how long did it take to program the key?
Can this key programming be done with an SDS C3?

From what I read before in the W210/140 is the dealer usually charge ONE hour of programming even though all it takes just few mins to test the key in the car. I would assume the X164 should be the same.

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking... there's no way they would tie up a bay for 4 hours and only charge for ONE hour when it should take a few minutes. THEY would lose money/productivity.

I called 3 other dealerships in other cities and was told by ALL 3 that the key for my vehicle (VIN) will arrive from Dallas already programmed; all they will do at the dealership is test that it works. One dealership will even send a tech to the house with the key!

Picked up my key today. They said it needed to be programmed, I called BS. I asked to see it and took it to my car and started it up. They had a fit! It was programmed and worked just as the other 3 dealers described. The clerk ran out with the paperwork for me to sign and it is implied that I never go back there, HAHA!

You don’t have to have the dealer code anything. They are preprogrammed for the facility in Dallas.

That is true, I just proved it! That is so they justify charging $100 more than the other dealers I called. Too bad I called them AFTER I paid for the key.

When they gave me the second key for my 204 a few years ago they just handed me the key in the brown envelope and said here you go and that was it. I wonder how many are scamming people?

Check with different dealerships in your surrounding area, you may find one much cheaper.
