Anyone interested in doing this? Or are we all afraid to drive our cars too far because of the enourmous potholes around here :) OK, I know that some of you are laughing at me given that I've had the car only 5 hours :)

Bear Mountain and the like is perfect. We could chart out a route. Breakfast start, drive to a lunch destination, and an afternoon return route.

Alternatively, we could meet during a week night as well, for those of us with family obligations on the weekends, we could shoot for say a Thursday to meet somewhere and drive to dinner somewhere (nice roads, cool evening air).. etc..

Bear Mountain on a Sunday is an excellent idea! Sunday May 1st works for me. Thursday evenings are iffy for me, might be able to make it, might not.

Where would we meet at Bear Mountain?...at the top of the mountain? I have not been there in many, many years, but as I recall you can drive to the top of the mountain on a winding, twisting, but paved road...perfect for our great handling cars? Anyone been there recently? I recall a parking area at the top, would that be a good place for photos? I recall a lot of the foliage up there being impaired due to acid rain damage, but a really decent view of the Hudson River Valley. It may be a bit difficult for us to match the view our comrades in Northern California had...the Golden Gate Bridge in the background of the photos :) Not the I don't want to spend the entire day with everyone :), but I would prefer a 2-3 hour event max given that it's about an hour and half drive each way for me to attend. My weekend schedules are a bit overbooked, so I really can't invest the entire day. What would be better, morning or afternoon? Morning would work better for me, but afternoon is doable.

Bear Mountain Inn

We could meet in the parking lot (empty) and then take an hour or 2 drive around seven lakes drive. We could end up at the same or another local restaurant for optional brunch. Can do this relatively early so there's les traffic. Don't know anything about the quality of the food, though.

Fred, I like your ideas, especially driving around Seven Lakes Drive....As I recall it's very scenic. Just one problem, the Inn is closed until Spring 2006 for renovations. Can anyone suggest an alternate restaurant? As you pointed out scheduling this for early in the day makes sense...on a pretty Sunday afternoon in the spring I think traffic can get pretty busy up there.

Restaurant...

The Depot in Cold Spring is very nice with reasonable prices. It's not too far away and is frequented by a few Car Clubs. I'd say lets meet at the Bear Mountain Inn parking area at 8:30 AM to begin a 9AM drive finishing at 11AM at the Depot.

Sounds great, Fred. I beleive I've seen the restaurant you are talking about when I've taken my boat up the Hudson River. My vote is to run with your idea as getting the consensus of a larger group of people may be unwieldy...hopefully no one will disagree. I guess we just sit back now and wait to see who tells us they are joining us? One question for you...let's say we get 10-12 cars, how do we logistically all drive together without getting separated? Perhaps it's no big deal...but I've never done something like this before.

I've done a few with my TT group.
Usually a person who lives close-by will pre-drive to time and map the route. For this they get the honor of leading the pack. The route is now pre-determined so no one will be truly lost. Part of the route mapping involves looking for trouble spots where the group could separate and scoping out roadsides thereafter where the group can catch up. Also mapping a couple of short stops for photo ops will insure continuity.
So, who wants to step up to the plate and be a leader!!!!

I would not mind doing it (especially given that it would be another excuse to drive the new car), but I live an hour and a half from there, and probably won't have the time to run up there. Fred, would you mind doing it? I assume you live up that way as you seem to know that area well. Or, any other volunteers?
