According to Motor Trend, the new V8 will be direct fuel injected implemented in the flagship S series and in a separate release MT confirmed a 6.3L NA engine in the AMG M series.

I guess that makes it official - the SLK55 will carry on for 2 more years till it is updated.
Just like the W203 C32 that got bumped up to the C55, the SLK55 will get a midlife engine update.
Any power numbers mentioned Fred?

No specific mention of the SLK.
M and S are new platforms.
Engine may not even be compatable with the C platform, although both 2006 MY M and S will have the "outdated" 5.0L 3 valve.

Very far off... I'll have at least a good 2 years out of my car by the time the VERY FIRST 63's would come out.
And even then they probably won't be very commong until another year later.
If you can wait for one, cool, but meanwhile all the other SLK owners will be happy driving their 200/350/55/280's... [
