In my quest to get my S500 coupe working again I ordered all the breather hose parts from AutohausAZ - and I got the more expensive version of each part (not the Uro).

Now that the hoses are on, there is continuous heavy smoke coming out of the exhaust - first a big puff when it starts and then a constant stream.

I'm not sure if it's because something's wrong with how the breather hoses are connected (see image) or if the period where the engine was running super rough did damage to valve guides or something else. The car has only about 130K miles on it.

The friend who was nice enough to replace them for me said I was missing a part (one of the connectors in the image).

Do any of these connectors have valves that control the flow of air? If it was connected wrong, could that be forcing oil in to the combustion chamber?

THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!

btw, my prior thread on other issues is here:

btw, the breather parts I had replaced are as follows, I'm not sure what I missed ordering which should have been on the list but I tried getting everything breather hose related that AutohausAZ offered.

1190940312OE - Crankcase Breather Hose Connector; Y-Shaped Air Hose Connector
1190944082OE - Crankcase Breather Hose; Connector to Intake Manifold Flange; Right
1190943182OE - Crankcase Breather Hose; Left Side from Connector to Intake Manifold Flange
1190160181 - Crankcase Breather Hose; Oil Separator to Right Cylinder Head
1190942882 - Crankcase Breather Hose; Right Side from Connector to Intake Manifold Flange

I had a similar thing after re-installing my covers after degreasing them and I obviously did not clean out the breather cavity properly. Exhaust was oily at WOT for a while, then it cleared.

When was your oil changed. I dont want to scare you but it can a few things. It could mean worn out piston rings, worn valve seals, overfilled oil, damaged valve cover, where the valve cover gaskets replaced? Sometimes the tube for the positive crank ventalation gets dented and it sucks up oil through the breather hose on the passenger side rear valve cover. What you can do to test it is disconnect hose and cover the hose with a finger and see if the car smokes. Also make sure to put rags around the valve cover hole. Because if i remember correctly on the m119 that is the only spot where oil can be sucked through the intake.

paxpeter,
Here is the way I handled this job. When I got a CE light we pulled the engine cover off and looked at the hoses. They were the originals and in poor condition. I went to EPC and got the picture and part numbers of my hoses. We then ordered them and using the EPC picture as a guide, replaced them one at a time. I seemed to remember that one of the plastic tees had a valve in it(?) If true. perhaps yours is in backwards or you got the wrong valve(?)
Just a guess. By the way, the improvement was STUNNING.

Hi Anziani, would you still have an image of how the hoses should be arranged and what connectors are used? I just spoke to the guy who had replaced it with the new hoses (and rigged the current connection) and he'd said that the connectors that were there fell to pieces when he was changing the hoses ... that's why he rigged it up.

Nhzruthless818, I haven't had a chance to check, all my starting/running issues has finished off the battery so I need to get another now. Hopefully it's not the engine (actually I thought I'd replied to your post but can't see it).

I will keep this updated.

As mentioned in another thread I started regarding the breather hoses, I found my solution on here at the following URL. I'll let y'all know how it goes once I get the parts and do the install. That will at least tell me if the incorrectly installed connectors were causing the oil to get pulled into the engine or if it's something bigger.

Then I'll have to see if all the parts I'll have replaced will help with the bad stalling issue. Hopefully there will still be some very cold days here so that I can be certain the issue has cleared up!

And sorry to post the same thing twice but I'd bet LOTS of people will have an issue with these hoses as they age and leak. I can't believe that the car was taken apart by both the dealer and a reputable indy shop and this wasn't seen as an issue - but I guess they look ok until you start touching them. Apparently, the "rule" is that these hoses should be changed every 10 years. I got mine from Auto Parts at AutohausAZ - OEM Auto Parts - Discount Replacement Parts, Resources and Car Care Tips but the problem was that the Y and T connectors didn't show up with the breather hoses in my search so I didn't realize I was missing some parts - and then, of course, they were put on incorrectly! :)

-----------from my other post-----------
This page has both clear images AND a the PDF of the diagram. It's for a 1995 (mine is 1996) but for the Y and T, I don't believe it's changed.

My Y, T, and connectors arrive from the dealer tomorrow so I'll install them per the diagram.

paxpeter,
As soon as I finish today's forum I'll open up EPC and get a picture for you.
My car is a '97 CL500 and yours is a '95? I think they are the same engine. To be positive I should have your VIN but I'll run it this AM and send it on.

I had exact thing happen to me when I did my cam oilers. Valve cover on driver side which has breather hose connected to intake is probably bad. I too soaked and degreased my valve covers and some how managed to mess up that lol valve. Idk if it gets stuck open but on mine that's where it was getting oil into intake causing lots of smoke. Freaked me out when it happened, luckily I had an extra valve cover. Swapped it over and smoke gone. Take valve cover off and check that breather Part on cover. Not sure if its only supposed to suck. I think it gets stuck open and allows oil to seep into valve covers. Try that out. Hope u get it resolved. I'm sure the cats aren't liking all that oil.
