Bought a 98 ML today for parts and there's some things that are definitely different than my 98. First I checked the transmission fluid color, it's golden, almost like new oil, I'm pretty sure this isn't normal, but I'm not 100% sure because so many things do look different than my 98. It also looks like there's an oil cooler on the filter housing that I don't have on mine.

Sorry, my first question would be, is the golden color of the transmission fluid normal? She told me she hadn't messed with the transmission and when she drive it in December it shifted fine, but of course she wanted to sell it.

I'll get that as soon as I get off work

The Cadaver's VIN is: 4JGAB54E1WA001383. BTW, I may have to steal "The Cadaver" for it's name .

Reading the option list brought up something I have been wondering about. Has anyone’s Ml had the warning triangle? Both of ours no, every pick apart ml no! Found cars with first aid kits, never ever a warning triangle!

I don't have the warning triangle in either of my ML's, my daily driven one has the first aid kit though.

Warning triangles were typically reserved for outside the NA market. Always deleted for NA built or NA bound.

Back to the original question, would a gold color for the transmission fluid be normal?? Also, The Cadaver has the oil cooler and my daily doesn't, should I consider adding the oil cooler to mine or just leave it how it is?

Wonder w

wonder why?
From my understanding,
only commercial vehicles have to carry these types/styles of warning triangles or similar.
Also, present day vs. the past and fewer vehicle breakdowns on the streets, personal vehicles have hazard lights and are more visible vs. these warning signs.

Could be the original, as mentioned in the link provided, and most likely is as the previous owner hasnt "messed with it".
I would leave it things alone, if your not having any present issues.

Well, if the transmission is good then I'll put it in my daily ML since I have some stripped threads for the transmission pan.

What about the oil cooler? Should I just leave mine alone or should I install it on my ML? The Cadaver does have a tow receiver that I plan on putting on mine if that helps any?

Lee according to an online dealer parts site your ML should of had
Oil Cooler - Mercedes-Benz (112-188-04-01).
Why it is not there? Same for. 99.

I would install one. You will need new gaskets of course.

My daily driven one just didn't come with one. Wasn't a factory installed thing I guess. I haven't had one since I owned it and I know the previous owner didn't remove it. The original owner may have had it removed, but it's unlikely that she did.

Weird maybe it was an option that came with the tow package?
That's kinda what I was thinking. Should I go ahead and install it since I plan on putting the tow hitch? I'm not sure if it's the factory hitch, I'm not sure what the factory hitch looks like honestly.
