I bought one from him. It will go well with my new engine.

These are for the Gen1 (model for Euro 380's), they don't fit the Gen2 which has more pins.

Though could one reverse engineer a 560 fpr with components from this unit to work?

Yeah, that was the idea. I was going to take it apart and see what makes it tick and maybe R/E one for my car. Being with Hydros I don't want to push too much past 6 grand, but it's nice to know it's on tap if needed.

Would these work with my Gen I 500SEL (i.e. not specific to the 380)?

I bought one! Hopefully, no issues getting it. Jono confirmed will work for my 500SEL.

So after over a week of no kickdown worky, I pulled it and replaced it with the OE relay. As mentioned previously, everything operated normally with the 001 545 0405 except for the lack of the lazy man's downshift. Redline was in fact raised above 6k though the hydraulic lifters didn't feel quite as comfortable up there as the solid setup on the ol' sl.

Definitely worth holding onto for a PP solid lifter M/T set up or figuring out a work around for the issue.
