hi all! i'm very excited to take delivery of my new E350 4MATIC this coming Saturday.

question.. what should i do first?!

i'm thinking about doing a clear bra installation first and foremost.. then move onto replacing the front orange little lights on the bumper to clear. any tips or suggestions? where to get the lights?

and how about changing interior lights to LEDs... worth it?

I have a long wait for mine. Late December delivery now, but the Designo paint color I picked may take 4-6 weeks longer. Its called Graphite.

I am going to go with tint and partial clear bra on the nose before it leaves the dealership. Once I see the color in the flesh, I may smoke the front markers but I am not sure about the tail lights yet.

I need the floor mats too, and will probably pop for weathertech plastic ones too shortly afterward.

Make sure you do not open the door while the car is in either D or R, because it will automatically put your car in P and you will feel your car abruptly and sharply slam into a complete stop. Ask me how I know...I just tinted my windows and was coming to a rolling stop and had to open my door to get a pass from a security guard and as soon as I opened my door I heard a weird sound and it felt like I hit a bump or curb, car was in P as soon as I opened the door.

wow thanks for the heads up! you know, i've always wondered if its possible to turn the key (turning off the car) while moving lol.. i have the keyless go so i wonder what would happen if i pressed the button while driving!

as for the clear bra, i was quoted $695 at one place and $1095 at another! i had a clear bra put on my range rover sport a year ago and i think i paid $750. what's everyone else paying?

as for clear and smoke turn indicators, what's the best source to buy them from?

A friend of mine said that you should not leave CDs , DVDs in your COMAND because it extreme heat could hurt it .

I think you can try ebay for clear LEDs
If you like clear things I think you must be also liking clear taillights lol

anyone have a suggestion on roof spoilers with panoramic roof? should i do black or do body color?

Some general comments

Insist on a copy of the VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) and PDI (predelivery inspection) on a new car.

It may be too late to get a free paint pin ( little bottle of touch up paint) and a free, really nice key chain, from the dealer's parts boutique. You can do it at the moment of delivery, it's not too late.

Make sure the salesman at the time of delivery, gives you a thorough demo of the car's features, they are paid for that anyway.

Take a good look at the body and interior, lok for scratches and damage. if you find any have it fixed by them.

If you like the dealer, ask them for 10-15% off parts and service prices. Since you bought it there they will probably agree.

Buy right away, the Mercedes Benz set of rubber black all weather floor mats, (The ones to protect the carpets and floor mats in your new car.) You will nevermore have to worry about stepping accidentally in wet paint, dog crap, or chewing gum and then trying to remove it, these are hazards in Francisco and the bay area, you would be dismayed if you stepped in that stuff.. works in snow and slush and rain too.

Shouldn't run you over $75-$90 for the set when the discount is applied by the dealer.

No reason to go for window tint if you live in Alamo. If you spend your summers in Palm Springs or Albuquerque then that is another matter.

If you only want tint for the "mystique" look, common in LA or the bay area then go ahead, well, then that is another matter.

Smoked tail light lenses for the first time, (the 2013 model year), are now dealer-available accessories for the w212 e class. I hate them because I see no aesthetic value to them and think they allow LESS visibility when you hit the brakes.... but that is a matter of personal preference.

It is also a good time to review the extended warranty coverage, if you want it. I personally bought all I could get, (the cars are super complex now, dealer labor rates in some Nor Cal MB dealers are $175 p/h and maybe more, and climbing,) on 8/25/12, so I am covered to 8/2017 and 135k though a lot of the later waranty coverage on it is not totally bumper to bumper.

Bargained it down to $1,945, which some people don't realize thas azsdde3d warranty coverage is VERY profit laden and can be haggled with, and folded the coat into the car loan.

But i then paid off everything in full last week, I hate being partners with banks in anything, and hate paying interest to them.

Read the Operator's, COMAND and Maintenance Manuals very carefully. I make a lot of notes in margins of mine, highlight things and also make simplified notes on how to do certain functions and keep these in console. Some dealers will actually give you the manuals before you take delivery of the car.
If plan to download to Music Regiser, may need to plan ahead on what you are going to record, set it up and then take some long drives. As I recall, takes about 20 minutes or so to download average CD. If you download CD's that are complilations of different artists, MR will automatically load to Various Artist folder. See instructions on how to rename CD after it has been recorded. I ended up with several CD's in VA folder and then had to open it and search to find one I actually wanted. Eventually deleted them and then recorded and renamed the folder (CD).
Oh - congrats! Also, be very careful when using COMAND as you end up looking at screen a lot more than you would think.

I paid around $750 for my clear bra. That includes a $75 fee for coming to my house to do the I install.
The tranny going into Park if you open the door while in Drive or Reverse sounds a little far fetched to me. I'm not going to try it but I would certainly ask a tech if that's supposed to happen. Enjoy it !
PS My curiosity got the best of me. I was driving very slowly this morning in my E and opened the front door. As expected the tranny was not affected in the slightest. Only got the red warning on the center instrument cluster. Can you imagine the number of tranny issues/warranty claims MB would have if the car was slamming into park while the car was moving even at slow speeds?

This may be a silly question but, was the car stationary when you did this or moving? If moving what speed approximately? Just curios.

I would never turn off the engine in a moving vehicle.

If you look in Operator's Manual section on Automatic Transmission, it should describe what it does. Mine states following. NOte that SmartKey is the regular key. I do not have KeylessGo.
"When you turn off the engine using the SmartKey, and remove the SmartKey from the starter switch or open a front door, the automatic transmission will shift into park position automatically."
"Keep in mind that turning off the engine alone only will shift the automatic transmission into neutral position automatically."
Manual warns to always put car in P before turning off engine as it might roll away if you don't.

No question that my 2012 works that way. I stopped to pick up the Sunday paper coming home from church Sunday and did not realize I was still rolling a bit when I opened the door. It DEFINITELY went into park. I was barely moving so it was just a jerk and no worry about damage. My understanding is (and it's in one of the manuals, just can't remember exactly where) is that the transmission is protected from going into park or reverse if the car is moving. That applies to using the transmission shift or opening the door. Just not sure what the speed has to be and don't intend to experiment to find out. BTW I do have keyless go. Not sure if that makes a difference.
