Not sure what to do. The ML is in mint condition, but needs new tires. Like many others on this forum, I can't find replacement tires. 285/50/18.
The tread is almost gone and won't be able to be safely driven during the upcoming Chicago winter. Do i sell it just because i can't replace my tires? kbb says its worth $5800. smh
Has anyone with a ML55 recently found a remedy for lack of tire options? Has anyone seen the 20 or 21 inch ML63 rims on a ML55? wonder if that would work? Any pics would be helpful.

Well, I took a route that most AMG owners wouldn't -- and I'm very happy I did. The tires on my ML55 had been changed to a 255/50-18, which IMO looked down right ridiculous on the ML.

I went with a larger, All Terrain Tire -- the Hankook DynaPro ATM in a 265/55-18. Looks great, fills the gaps, and has good all around grip.

I'll put this out there with the Caveat that it's not for everyone, but personally I love it... My ML also has 170k on it, so it's a far cry -- probably both condition wise, and how it's been kept -- than yours. I'm sure yours is much nicer.

One option is going with a slightly bigger tire. I had these once before.

I could of bought it for $1800 less. It was for sale less than 12 miles from me. The person that swapped it to Joe was very honest about its problems. I was still interested, but having two daughters in pre-med at Marquette kept me cash poor. When I had the cash Joe had already made the deal to swap a great running Saab to his friend for that ML 55. Shortly after Joe and I did a lot PMing and even a couple of phone calls. Joe is the MAN. He went outside of his Saab comfort zone and has done a stellar job with the ML 55.
I am glad a true car lover got it. He also turned me on to a salvage yard that is only 40 minutes away that has many MLs for grabbing parts from at a great price.

God bless Joe for keeping one of the best true body on frame luxury and sporty SUVs on the road.

I don't think he's talking about mine... I think he's talking about the one the OP has...

But thank you sir. I appreciate that! -- And that $1800 difference wouldn't have covered the parts installed. lol :smile

Rob, the ML55 I was referring to was the OP's with 65,000 miles not Slow_Joe's. Joe did hell of a job bringing the rotten ML55 back to life, but I'm nowhere close to what Joe had accomplished to his ML55. I really admire his skill and courage to tackle the seemingly impossible job.

Frankly, I'm too old and scared to take that kind of project.

Thank you as well!

It definitely was a project -- as everyone saw... But as my wife and I have come to figure out -- my life is just a series of projects... lol :)

And I'd also give the OP $5800 for his ML, cause that would be a downright steal!

Sorry Sparky, I got confused. I would pay that $5800 as well.

Is this the opening bid for the OP's ML55?
Let's do it, I'm in.

Thanks for all the input.
Looks like I'm going with the 285/55/18 tires. Would love to go with 20 inch rims, but need a great deal to go that route.
Planning on changing ball joints and tie rods.
What else would you guys recommend changing before installing new tires? The shocks and spring's still seem solid. Are there any bushings i should change for a 65k miles/16yrs old vehicle? I just want to make the suspension ready for the new set of tires.
