Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and was hoping someone could help me out.

I have a 1995 S420 with less than 70k on it and recently had the check engine light come on. This is a CA car so it has the LED built in for diagnosis.

It flashes 17 times and then 19 times and repeats that.

What does this mean? Can anyone help me?

17 would be canbus communication issue. pull your computers out and check for corrosion on the contacts and clean with contact cleaner from radio shack.
19 is a tricky one, but in most cases its a leaking vacuum line or fitting somewhere on top of the motor, or at the module on the side of the transmission.

Thank you very much for the fast help. Is pulling out the computers hard? Any instructions or a link to show how to do that?

JUST 4 ALLEN HEAD BOLTS TO REMOVE THE COVER AND USE 2 HOOKS ON EACH SIDE OF THE COMPUTER AND PULL UP, SHOULD COME RIGHT OUT.

few months ago i tried to pull the ECUs out but they wont even move!!!
is there a special too to pull em with ?
i dont wanna pull em hard to prevent damages

A couple questions: Has the wiring harness been replaced??? That's important and if it hasn't, then that's the place to start.

DTC#17 indicates possible deterioration in the signal harness . . CAN bus . . which could mean the wiring harness has NOT been replaced.

DTC#19 means that the Fuel Computer is at its limit and as slowhands wrote, it well could be a vacuum leak. However, in MANY cases, there's no leak and it requires a fuel computer upgrade. More info here.
