Hey guys, I have an '83 500SL that needs nearly a complete interior overhaul. Previous owner's thread here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/1675360-1983-500sl-amg.html

Since the seats need replacing I'm entering the market for a pair of Recaro seats. I'd like them to be period-correct and haven't been able to identify all the models available for that year. I believe the Ideal and Classic C were two models available for install thru AMG but not 100% certain.

Are there any other styles that would be correct for the era and fit in the r107? Any other brands you would recommend? I'm aware I'll have to work around the mounting bracket problem but will save that issue for another day.

I think you should be seeking recaro ideal / classic C seats. Perhaps the lighter manual seats that look like the power version would make sense too.

I think there is a black set on ebay for $1500 in the Midwest somewhere. So I'd say you are in luck. http://bit.ly/1aCOpIF

Oh. Cloth not leather. Well you can apparently get leather skins from "seatshop" ? In canada for under $400 and install them yourself.

Well, I have three sets I would like to unload in order to "upgrade" to a single set. The tan set in the group didn't work at all when I tested it, and I'm not sure in up for the project of restoring them. Then again, they don't take up too much room in my attic and I figure I can greatly increase their value if I am able to refurb them, and maybe just replace the skins to use them in my gray interior car.

Thanks for the info, Fonzi. Glad to see wheels aren't your only fetish. As reliable as they come, you've taught me a large part of what I know about the 107.

Now allow me to peel my lips from your arse and ask about that tan set. Once the mechanics are sorted out, would the leather require a wrap or just a dye job? Love the seats but I'd catch hell for the color clash. PM me if you have a price in mind.

The tan set is vinyl (as is the brown set).

I haven't ever tied a hog or used hog tie clips or whatever you call the things needed for the installation if new skins.

I honestly don't know what that tan set will need, but I don't thing they even have pumps for the air lumbar bladders. There are open hoses, as if the pumps were mounted in the car somewhere. (The black cloth recaros have the pumps inside them somewhere.)
