NEED HELP W/ SPEEDING TICKET

LAST NIGHT I WAS DRIVING MY S600 AND WAS STOPPED BY THE POLICE. THE OFFICER ASKED ME IF I HAD PERMISSION TO DRIVE MY DAD'S CAR. I TOLD HIM IT WAS MY CAR AND HE ASKED ME WHERE I LIVED. HE TOLD ME TO GO HOME OR HE WOULD FIND SOMTHING TO GIVE ME A TICKET FOR.
ON MY WAY HOME I RAN 2 YELLOW LIGHTS AND ABOUT 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD WAS STOPPED BY 3 POLICE CARS. THEY GAVE ME A TICKET FOR RUNNING 2 RED LIGHTS! I AM 18 AND THIS IS MY FIRST TICKET. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A 2 POINT VIOLATION. THE OFFICER TOLD ME THAT NEXT TIME HE WOULD HAVE MY CAR TOWED. I LIVE IN MARIN COUNTY. -IT WAS THE SAN RAFAEL POLICE
-WHAT CAN I DO?
-HOW MUCH WILL A ATTOURNY COST?
-HOW MUCH WILL MY INSURANCE GO UP. (IT IS ALLREADY $5800 PER YEAR)

Speeding

I think this was one of your recent posts, who are you fooling!

I am a young guy trying to find the top speed of my car. The car has 402 hp!
what is the top speed of the 600sel? I got mine up to allitle over 150 but ran out of space. at 150 it was at 5K rpm. at that rate I would think that it is Rev limited at allitle over 160mph. Is there a speed limitor on the car? Will I have a higher top speed if I get 20' rims w/ bigger tires? I will be making a website with films of me burning a 98 M3 on the highway from a standstill. I also I have over 20 min of crazy racing film that I made. Check this forum for the website in about 6-8 weeks. Also, how can I turn off the ASR? Is there a switch because I cant find it. will I have to pull the fuze? -can i pull the fuze. Any info on how to make my car perform better will help alot. thank you -Kristian

I know, but I was not speeding here. The road I was on was not a road where people will drive fast. I was not speeding. I was going max 30 in a 25 zone.

RE: 30 in a 25 zone is legal under the speical conditions.

Incase you did not know if it says "Speed limit 25" it means that recommended safe speed is 25. It was 11:45 at night and I was going at the speed of other cars. 30 therfor is not an unsafe speed. For the court to find me guilty they would need to first proove with a radar gun that I was in excess of 25 (which they did not). Then they would have to proove that 30 was an unsafe speed to be traveling.
They will not be winning that part of the ticket. But the 2 "red" lights will be harder to proove even though I have 4 people who say they were yellow.

Sorry to say it appears that you are admitting your gilt "I ran 2 yellow lights" I believe you will find that the yellow light means to clear the intersection, not to enter it. You knew it was yellow before you entered it or you would not have said that you ran it.

There is an old saying, "if you do the crime, do the time" in your case "pay the fine".

Just keep in mind that some day when you are speeding or running the yellow lights, there may be someone else doing the same thing at the same time. Will your family miss you when you are gone, or the family of some other person who lost their life. At that time there will not be enough money to make you or the people who are at a loss forget what happened.

You think it was safe, but that is why they call them accidents. We don't plan on them.

I did not really "run yellow lights" It turned yellow as I was about 20 feet from the intersection. If I slammed on the brakes as hard as possible I probably could have stopped but there were cars behind me.
I understand what you mean by crazy drivers going through red lights etc. I was hit by a car and to this day am still having problems from the accident. I will admit that in the past I have often driven fast but have never done it in any situation where it will endanger anyone but myself. I did it on the highway at 4 in the morning and would wait for there to be no cars. The thing with this ticket that upsets me though is that the officers were picking on me because of my car. Tell That to the Judge, not me :). Spped limit is not recommended, it is the maximum limit, a boundary that ought not be exceeded to the threat to your wallet. Simple. :). I know how you feel, but I just cannot sympathise with you.

Get an attorney!

If you truly believe the cops were picking on you because of your car and have been constantly harassed get an attorney and go to court. The criminal justice system is meant to make the world safer, not harass innocent people. I don't think you should let people that harass you get away, be they cops, or whoever else. You must have a record of every time they stopped, you the reasons or citations, etc...and prove a pattern of police high-handeness to make your case strong.

thanks, I will do what you say. I will take it to court. I have been doing alot of research and think that I have a good chance. I am friends with some of the officers in my local police dept and they are giving me alot of good tips. But there is a shireff and a San Rafael police officer that keep on picking on me. I have gotten the last few stops on my cam corder. The officers admitted to not having a reason for stopping me. -thanks, Kristian
