My blower motor was failing intermittently and after doing a search learned that it would be worthwhile to take it apart and lube things. Got out the blower and now need help taking it apart. Read that I should drive out the pin that runs through it all with a punch and hammer. My question: Which direction should I hammer the pin, hammer on the turbine basket side or hammer on the motor side? Thanks!

Also amusing I found this funky wooden key in the blower housing when I took it apart. Works on my car!

In my opinion, your best option would be to get a used blower motor from the junk yard and install it. I tried lubricating the old blower motor but did not work. If you can not rotate the blower motor by hand freely without drag then just replace it unless you dismantle it change the front and back bearing and I don't know from where to get the bearings.

Before you take the blower assembly apart at the risk of breaking the fan why not check the brushes first. They should be in plain sight spring loaded against the armature. If they are short, they may cause your fan to work intermittently.

I bought a set at ACE Hardware for a couple of bucks but they required some filing and I believe I had to solder them in. It's been awhile. The correct brushes show up on ebay from time to time but they run about $30.00. For that price I would rather find a low mileage example in the wrecking yard.

Thanks, I realized this morning that the black housing on the motor simply pulls off, duh! So now I have a clear view of the motor and yes one of the brushes is clearly worn out. I'll try the hardware store since the junkyard is an hour away but will go there if I can't get a cheap brush replacement. The motor turns relatively easily.
