Need help replacing window switch

My left front window is not operating. I suspect it's the switch that needs replacing, but how do I remove the center wood panel (without damaging it) to get to the switch?:confused:

Sorry about that. I thought as I was posting in the W124 section I wouldn't need to go into that much detail. As I'm new to this forum, I now know better. Thanks for pointing it out.

It's a 1986 300E W124

Thanks for the input. I did try the fuses. I should have mentioned that the switch was/is working intermittently.

Pull the screw out at the end under the carpet oiece in the tray and lift up. The switches are the only thing that hold it down. That should give you enough room for access to the switch. If not then remove the ash tray, take out the two screws and pull out the whole assembly then you can completely remove the center piece.

Thanks for the reply and info. I really appreciate it. Yesterday after posting my initial inquiry, I cracked the windows (except the drivers) to allow air circulation in the car while I was at work. And lo and behold now the passenger window is stuck open.
Fortunately when I bought new replacement switches I bought a pair!

Now thanks to the kindness of you guys in this forum, I can attempt to fix them.

BTW the car is a real doll. 1 owner 84,700 miles. Will post pictures when I figure out where to do it!:)

Remove the switches and carefully prise the tops off. Buy a good quality contact cleaner/lubricant (ElectroLube?) from an electronics shop. Spray the contacts a few times and, if you can, clean off any more difficult deposits.

Spray again, reassemble and, with luck, you're in for a few years' operation.

On all my MBs since 1977 I have only once changed window switches and that's because my son and his friend decided to look out of the sun roof destroyed one by standing on it.

UPDATE! SUCCESS. (partial)

Thanks to the input from you guys, my driver's window now WORKS as it's supposed to. Not so the passenger side. Couldn't get the new switch to seat properly. Don't know if its a faulty connection. Window had worked fine till yesterday. (Seeing as there is rarely a passenger in the car, I don't anticipate great inconvenience till I can get to the cause of the problem. At least I now know how to get into it!!
