Ok, Iv'e searched, tried. Mostly I get pointed to this very good web site.

Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN

But, Im not sure if my used car still has the original 603.960 diesel engine.. So is there any way I can confirm the data i get from the above web site is correct with what i have. Thanks in advance.

My 1992 Owners Manual for a 190E has pictures which point to the location of the engine numbers for the 2.3 and 2.6 engines (both are different), maybe your Owner Manual has the same thing?

Thanks for your replies. I will check the engine block near the starter.

The manual is not very clear. It specifies it as under the hood above the turbo - but i dont see any in that vicinity. Most of the engine is covered by the trap oxidizer.

Just curious... what is going on with your car that requires you have the engine serial number?

Good Luck,

Jayare
I wanted to buy a poly-v belt tensioner but I was getting conflicting results from the web as to what kind should I order. There are 3 kinds available and I wanted to make sure. The lifting holes on my cyl head looks like its been "lifted" before so i was suspecting my engine was replaced at one point.

Secondly, I wanted to have my trap oxidizer removed. I wanted to find out what my chances are to have the dealer do this work under warranty.
