I believe that many people had a problem with that piece falling off. It might be worth it to contact yor MB dealer and demand that they replace it free of charge. If not have them contact the MB rep. If you don't ask, you don't get.

I agree, bring to you dealers attention. A lot of owners had got these replaced for free.

What I did in the past is to put a little glue so it doesn't fall off.
