i recently wrecked my 190E 2.6 and am considering buying an 84 300SD. It is in good condition, needs a few things done, but it is $2700. What i need to know is what should i do immediately after buying the car as far as engine, tranny, ect.

i will definently change the fluids right away, but regarding the diesel engine what should i do.

thanks

BEFORE you buy the car get a compression test done, check the injectors and IP for wear, and have a mechanic check it from bumper to bumper.

ac blower fan needs replacement, and it needs a new fuel gauge, plus the power seats, windows, sunroof, ect. switches work when they want, so i would need to replace those.

You fail to mention exactly what kind of shape the body is in. How many miles on the car? How does it run and drive? Does it start easily?

You seem to have your mind made up on buying. I am thinking there may be a better deal out there for that kind of money.

If you are going to buy it.
1) new fuel filters
2) new air filter
3) oil and filter change
4) valve adj. and timing chain check

That is for starters.

Replace it with a nice 5.0 litre petrol engine immediately. Turbo that.

well someone bought the 79 300D already, and the guy who sold it is getting an 83 300D this week, but i am not a paitent man, so i am not really that willing to wait, for several reasons.

anyway, back to the 84 300SD, the body is perfect, car is slow, but that is expected. it has been sitting for about 8 months. i am hoping that any problems it might have will be fixed when i get all the fluids and filters replaced. it also has 278000 miles on it, but that isn't too bad. i am kinda worried this will be a "money pit", but it is my only option. any more advice is appriciated.

Old MB are nothing to rush into. PATIENCE! Never buy the first thing you lay your eyes on. That seems like alot of money for something with 278,000 miles. Even if it is an old MB diesel.
