Anyone out there got a battery box for a 1300L that they would be willing to part with. I need something to fit my 2 batteries (24V) that looks right on a 1300L, does not have to be original, but I would prefer a MB box.

Mine was a little bit rusty...

Thanks.

As is mine for my 1550. They are hard to find in decent shape and are very expensive new. I am trying to light a fire under Couch's but to fab up some reproductions to add to his already bitchin' web site. For now I'll stick with my rust box.

I could be wrong but I think there is a topic on battery box replacements in here. Or it might be "part of" some ones build thread... either way.. pretty sure something is in here on it.

search might turn up something.

Battery Box

Copied my entry from the BATTERY BOXES thread on this forum.

Just finished building a new battery box to replace the 39yo rusted out OEM junker for my 406.

I coated with a primer in order to get it on the mog for winter. Waiting for a friend to finish his bead blasting setup, then I'm going to pull it off, grind down that hideous weld on the front corner of the lid, reburn it with a much prettier fusion tig weld, then blast the box, and have it sprayed with RhinoLiner.

I'd consider building one for you if you were local.

While Vons are a doable option, the design is for a 406/416. Most SBU boxes are of a different design. They are deeper, for one thing, and they have drop down door whith a slide out tray. Most also mount onto a heavy duty tray that is mounted tithe chassis. Von's would work, it's the right width to fit on my tray, but it's not deep enough to house a few electrical goodies along with the batteries. Also I prefer the drop side as oposed to the lifted top style.

I agree. If I cannot find a good SBU type box, I am going to go a completely different way and make my own, possibly relocating it as well. Hopefully some one will chime in.

Ben told me that the SEE's use the same box. Anyone convert their SEE to 12V and not need the big box?

How rusty is "a little rusty"? I know someone here who has an extra SBU (a 1300, I think) battery box he just took off his camper conversion, not in perfect condition but probably worth restoring.

5 Cyl,
Fixable is what I am going for...mine flew apart when I hit it with the pressure washer. I have a very good condition door, but I would be interested in whatever he has. Can you put me in touch with him please? my email is [email protected].

Thanks.

If a couple of you guys could give me some drawings of what you'd like,I can go through and tweek'em and give you an idea of a price. I know they won't be cheap, but at least you'll feel like you are getting your $'s worth on a better mousetrap.
Thanks,
