You need a dvd for a 2003-2005 model. the 2006 dvd will not work. The one that you listed above will not work either because it's in the cd format. The older ml's (2000-2002) had a cd based nav. The newer ones (2003-2005) have a dvd based nav. I have had quite a bit of expirience with this. It took me forever to track a dvd down for a 2005 at a decent price.

I burned an iso image of this Mercedes-Benz Harman Becker COMAND - North America Map DVD v.8.0.iso and the unit reads the disc and displays the MB navigation logo and after a minute says problem reading disc ..please check the disc?

Should I burn on a different DVD-rom?

The command version doesn't work in your MCS DVD drive. Mine is a 2006.1 DVD specifically for the MCS version of the DVD navigation drive. I was using it in my w163 before.

the 2006.1 refers to the map version, not the DVD drive itself. navteg issues updates regularly. get your fact straight before you post.

I know that updates are issued regularly. And I have my facts straight. I was posting to let him know what years DVD's would and would not work and 2006 and newer will not work. What I was posting was not in response to your post. Maybe you need to ask someone what they're talking about or what its in response to before you try to insult someone.

that's funny, I have the 2006.1 DVD and working fine in the DVD navigation drive in the W163. I can put in a 2006.2 or newer map in the DVD drive and it will continue to work as long as the map is specific to the MCS system. Now who is not getting the fact straight.

I really don't think you understand how this all works so I will try to explain it to you. You can have a 2006.1 or a 2006.2 or even a 2010.2 and will work fine in the w163 as long as that's the vehicle it's made for. I'm not saying that yours doesn't work. What I am trying to explain to the op is that the disc for a 2006 year model ml will not work because it is a w164, neither will a cd nav disc because that is for a 2000-2002 year model which has a cd-based system and not the DVD based system like the 2003-2005 has. I really don't know how much plainer I can make it for you. It sounds like you have a hard time understanding english. Please don't be insulting just because you don't understand.

Just to add some (correct) info to this thread, I have a 2000 ML55 and a 2000 ML430, and both are working just fine with a 2004.1 DVD (yes, DVD) factory MB disc. These are the NON-Fiber Optic MCS units as well.
