MY UK 55 AMG

Picked up my car last weekend and a friend took a couple of quick pix, so here they are.
I have had to scrub out the number plates for security but apart from that the pix have come out ok.
I promise to take proper pix of the inside and out of the car when I get some free time.

I have had the car nearly a week now, and everything is awesome as expected. My only complaint is the gear stick selector looks cheap and its unbranded. (They could have at least put an amg badge on it!!)
So it anybody has swopped their one for an improved look then please post and tell me where to get it!!

Also the 7 speed box is just best left in auto mode. I have found in manual the shifts up and down seem to take forever and takes away the enjoyment of the car. Best left in auto so you can concentrate on playing with all the wonderful toys on the cockpit!!

Happy trails!!

Congratulations on your new 55 - your car looks great.
You must be going crazy with the break in of this beast and holding back on the hard accelerating.
I only have about 300 miles on my 350 (the winter weather is still hanging on around the Philly, PA area) and even with the 6 cylinder engine it's hard to hold back.
Its an absolute nightmare not being able to put your foot down hard!! The engine sounds awesome, I just cant wait to do the magic 1000 miles so i can put my foot to the floor and thrash this animal!!
Had my name down on the waiting list for 18 months so you can imagine its frustrating now I got it!!
The 350 is a fantastic car also, I hope you are enjoying it!!
I am also looking forward to the magic 1000 miles mark, so to make things a little easier its actually 1500km, and that translates as 937 miles. I have 300 to go, and have crept up over 4000 rpm a few times, the exhaust starts to sing.
The price in Greece is indeed high, the cost of the 350 in the UK is £34,270 before extras, FX rate is 0.695= 49300 Euros. The price in Luxembourg was 37600 Euros before taxes, that was correct 6 months ago.
Looks like Tellurite Geordie, congratulations!
You have to drop the roof and drive around in a tshirt year round being a geordie.
In the US, this is how the retail pricing looks for an SLK 350:

M.S.R.P.* $46,970.00
Exterior Color (Metallic paint is optional, resulting in an additional price of $680.00)
Capri Blue Metallic $680.00

Interior Color
Beige Leather $0.00

Options
7-Speed Automatic Transmission $1,390.00
Heated Front Seats $680.00
Packages
317 Comfort Package $1,125.00
318 Trim Package $700.00
320 Entertainment Pkg with DVD Navigation $2,800.00
321 AMG Sport-Package $4,000.00
326 Premium Package $1,450.00

Total $59,795.00

Dealers are grudgingly discounting the SLK 350 anywhere from $1-2,000.00
For the SLK 55, there are no discounts off the retail price (at least in the Mid-Atlantic/North East area)

Hi Geordie nice car man!! Did you go for Tellurite with red/black leather? My salesman mentioned your colour choice to me. I get mine next Tuesday so see you around the streets of The Toon!! Mine is all black AMG kitted 350[8D].
CONGRATS on your beautiful new ride...the color suits the 55 well...ENJOY...[:D]
Congratulations! The color is definitely growing on me but I love my Iridium. Although I am beginning to see way to many of them!
The tellurite silver looks even better at night, it really gives the car an expensive look.
The interior is black and red nappa leather.
I should be posting lots of pix after the weekend...
Howay the lads, park it down the front at Tynemouth and watch the looks you get or cruise the quayside at night, I wish I was young again. The boys are playing tonight I wish them luck.

Hey a run away Geordie!! 1-3 Howay the Toon!!
3-1 [:(!][:(!][:(!] Should have bin at least 5-1, especially 11v9 - second half woz C*%P (IMHO)[:0][:0] .... (mind, don't mention Boro[:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(])
Hi Geordie
Have you driven a 350 with auto to compare with the 55. I just wonder how much difference in power feel there is between the two.....presumably it is worth the extra money. Any thoughts from you, or anyone who has compared them back to back?

Problem is there is no play maker none of the midfield can pass the ball without giving it away, I think spurs could be a problem on sat.

Yes, great result for the toon... But I wont harp on about footy as we got slk stuff to discuss!!

I have driven a auto 350 and the difference is mainly in the sound of the engine and handling.
The 55 amg is just awesome when you put your foot down!! The sound is just undescrible. All the guys at mercedes in Newcastle admit its the best sounding engine they have ever heard (they have sl 55 amg and sl 65 amg at the showroom!!)

The 55 amg is over half a second quicker to 60mph than the 350, but it feels like its doing it much quicker than that, and obviously the 55 amg has bags more torque so as you keep accelerating the 55 amg would leave the 350 for dead.
All in all if you have a 350 then be proud because its a fantastic car, but ne warned, if you drive a 55 amg, there is no going back!!

YES, ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY EXTRA!!
Do you speak to your mates 'bout 0-100 times, not 0-60. [:D][:D] Did you buy your 550 in the UK - thought they weren't out here for a couple more months?

A guy about 1/4 mile from where I live got his at the beginning of December. Very annoying, since mine's still a few months away [:(!]
I can see why there are so many slk55s in the USA with their gas costs, but I did not think there would be many takers in the UK due to its consumption against performance, my 350 is not good on the old MPG, bloody awful really, my annual mileage is very low so it is not a problem with me but the V8 must be very juicy with very little increase in overall speed over the 350, nice noise but a 10K + difference - needs thinking about.

Yes but if your mileage is low, then does it really matter? My annual mileage over three cars is only 12,000. As long as each returns 20mpg or so, then that's OK. And each person has to make their own judgement. For example, one of my colleagues turned down the 350 for a 200, for the same basic reason you are outlining - fuel economy. Yet you wouldn't agree with him, any more than I would agree with you about the increase in fuel consumption in the 55 being an issue. And yes, it's worth every penny of that difference IMO [:)]

The thing most people don't seem to realise is that for the majority of motorists buying new or nearly new cars, depreciation is a by far the largest motoring cost, even in the UK where fuel is expensive.
