Went to the dealer and saw something new.

G63 with Black matte paint. By far the best looking ride at the Benz dealer.

As somewhat of a w124 afficionado am I predisposed to liking the GWagen?

The design of the GWagen and W124 seem so similar. I'd be happy with a cherry 500E and a G63, ha ha. Or a w124 superdiesel and a G63. Ok. Just a G63 matte black.

She was hiding in the back. Bet she was a special order.

That appears to be a satin black. I rather like that effect on Mercedes, and have flirted with doing up my project wagon as satin black vinyl wrap.

Its called Magno Matte paint. Never needs waxing. Its extremely nice however only down fall is it can be damaged easily and if you scratch it your looking at a complete car respray as it is almost impossible to blend the paint properly. The paint color is applied in the typical process. Only difference is when they spray the clear. Its not a gloss clear. The clear is what gives the paint its look. There is 5 or so colors and they all look amazing!

It's not that it never needs waxing, it's that you can't wax it, you'll ruin the finish. Matte paint comes with a lot of downsides but can look great, if it were my G63 I'd order it in standard gloss black and get a professional matte wrap. ..though I'd prefer an old diesel G-wagen anyway.. grumble grumble I couldn't put up with single digit mpg numbers

I hate that color. I looked at it since I'm in the market for a G class. The color is at extra cost and you can't even take it through a car wash, you can't leave it exposed to the elements (bird droppings, etc), you can't wax it, you can't do paint touch ups. Heck, that's more maintenance than a newborn, except the G in that color won't need a new diaper every few hours.

They should pay the customer to take that color or issue a substantial discount. I'd rather have a MB service vehicle color scheme (white & blue) and demand a royalty fee for the advertising.

Clearcoat black is hard enough to take care of and I would never buy an SUV I can't take off the pavement. So, no thanks!

One of my neighbors was driving an S Class AMG for awhile that had that and it looked OK, but somehow seemed wrong for a Mercedes, IMO.

That G Wagen would look great in matte black if they had left off the chrome Cow Catcher, Running Boards, grill and side trim. With all that trim it looks like a ghetto poser car, albeit an expensive ghetto poser car.

A handful of cans of flat black BBQ spray paint can accomplish the same look for next to nothing.

MB needs to stop trying to go ghetto and get back to producing classy color combos. Case in point, less than 2 weeks ago I saw a screaming (Lambo) yellow W204 C63. In "pull-me-over and give me a ticket " yellow it looked like shiite IMO. In silver, the same car looks awesome.

You, simply have not seen this car in person. Nothing is more sophisticated than a bone stock white mercedes, almost any model--for example an e63 in white is awesome. But this is an exception. The GWagen looks best in matte balck. It looks terrible in gloss white. Then again you probably have your phone attached to your belt which is looped through your pleated khakis hemmed four inches off your ankle showing your butterfly tatoo--all while you drink a piss colored corona with your pinky finger pointing straight out. Style may not be your thing. I agree, I would flat black the rhino gaurd and get rid of the chrome

I HAVE seen this color, I have sat in it, I have driven it as I am in the market for a G55.

Honestly, I think it looks like shiite and not deserving of the MB badge. Maybe it would have looked better to the ghetto crowd with 24" chrome spinners???

A G class only looks good in silver, white and black only and in that order.

I sure as heck am not going to pay over $100K plus the extra $4K or so for a primer looking paint that needs to be rubbed every 5 minutes with a lint free diaper. Defeats the whole purpose of having a go anywhere offroader.

Few use $150k plus rides as go anywhere off-roaders. I give MB credit for trying new things. If it weren't new things, MB would not exist. MB does new better than all others.

The G was primarily designed as a military vehicle, not a luxo barge, when it debuted in 1979. I plan on using my prospective G class for exactly what it was designed to do, that means it WILL see quite a bit of off road activity in places where Jeeps and Toyotas get hopelessly stuck.

If it were available, I'd rather have a stripped out G 2 door convertible w/ a diesel engine but those were never officially sold here in the US. Instead we go the "fat one" that is fully decked out to compete against Range Rover.

Give me a desert beige or olive green W461, diesel, 5 door with 16 inch wheels and a hose out interior over that crap Mercedes has been peddling here since 2000.

I'm literally waiting for the 25 year exemption to expire for the right OM 602/ 642 powered one or a Land Rover D130 Crew Cab Pickup. TDi of course. Just 3 more years....

Our Canuck friends only need to wait for 15 years, so maybe you can buy one from them. Here are some nice vids of Gs in action, right here in the PNW

If a dealer has a matte white car on the lot it's not like other colors are not available.

These colors might not be for everybody but they are important to help expand the client base and take business away from competitors.

The things I would do to be able to get a OM606 twin cam diesel or a new Bluetec diesel powered G class.

The only thing better would be a Unimog.

I want one with a diesel engine and wouldn't care what color it was.

Doesn't the Unimog top out at around 55mph?

We still have to wait for 25 years. And I live in Kalifornistan; I can;t just buy someone elses import that's legal in Georgia or somewhere...

Of course one could buy an ex Canadian Military or USMC one, but they get snapped up quick.
