Thats probably the OBC equivalent. MPG, etc.

Thanks, she's 97. The 4 DESIGNO seats which are there, are very rare (because I have never seen those in black, only in 2 tone colors, and not in cars with separated rear seats), those are not normal seats.

The electronic device in the upper right is the auxiliary heater programmer for cold winters to set the car hour to start getting hot.

The rare options are the rear center FAX machine, dual phone (rear&front armrest), refrigerator, dual battery, rear curtains, BOSE speakers, DESIGNO interior, alcantara interior headliner\roof, rear reading lights.

Tomorrow I will get some better pictures.

Yes, the car is originally from Germany. I really don't know if it's got anything to do with Helmut Kohl but I do know that in 2000s she went to Luxembourg, to a reputable doctor.

I am also curious about this theory because the seller tried to tell me who owned in Germany the car (he mentioned that it was a political figure) but I don't know what caused the discussion to stop and now I can't get any other answer..

Any ideas how I can get this thing sorted out? Really curious who owned this car..

The 2 buttons on the right is the rear curtain (electric) and parking sensors.

I don't know what the G - G buttons do, I searched it everywhere, can't figure it out. Not even in the cars manuals those buttons don't appear.

I found in front of the passenger seat, hidden in the floor, this module which has a mobile phone in it and lighted up every time I started the engine. Looks aftermarket and crazy

So, a lot of mysteries with this car I guess..

Ahh, this is the car I am thinking of, but maybe that Helmut Kohl story, while plausible, is not confirmed.

The service book will say who sold the car new and who serviced the car, some hints in there.
I bet that rear-seat sunroof control is extremely rare.

This is what I got from decoding the VIN on a website, also some infotext in german but I don't really understand all, only fragments.
I know the Luxembourg owner of the car but I can't get in touch with him, and all the papers are from there. The only data I got from first owner is where he serviced the car for the first 3 years.. (it says it in the service book, on the dealer stamp)

Wow, cool car. But I can hardly keep my 420 rolling without it's constant maintenance. I can't imagine keeping that battle ship aflot.

Yeah, it may need a little bit of extra maintenance to keep it perfect but I don't mind.
The only problem until now was the notorious problem on the facelift side mirrors which tend to destroy the cable harness. Those cables short-circuit between them and my fuse keeps blowing on the mirrors slot (fuse #21), I need to find where this happened. (got out the connectors of the mirrors but still get a blown fuse)

Congrats on your new car! To shed some light on the installed equipment: According to the German text (which is mostly Daimler-Benz internal communication between the factory and the dealer), the fax machine in the rear requires its own connection ("line") so that there is a phone in the back and another phone (for voice) installed in the front center arm rest. The rest of the communication is about the particular wood veneer and the custom leather the customer required. The charge for phone and fax was DM 11,900! Convert that to today's USD or Euro...BTW: Both were analog systems and do not work any more ("D-Netz")...Other special requests were e.g. switch for sunroof in right rear door.

Re the "Helmut Kohl" speculation: I personally do not think this to be true for two reasons: a) the car has no bullet proof equipment b) the cars for German top politicians were (are?) usually on loan from the factory
