It was 1988, and my father had just been upgraded to CEO @ Diners Club.

With the job came a w126 '83 380 SEL, silver w/grey leather.

My sister & I felt like royals in the back there, alas they thought the car was to heavy. He swaped it for a new '88 BMW 520i. [V]

This was the day I decided on what car I would be driving the rest of my life.

Anyone else with simalar experiences?

My first ride occured on the day I bought my 300SEL.

However, I remember as a young kid walking with my dad through streets, I believe it was in Geneve Switzerland, and my dad would point out to several parked w126's and tell me if the model number is larger, it means its better and more expensive. Funny how I remember little things like that when I was only around 8.

p.s. They had a 380 engine back in 1988? I thought the last year was 1985. Perhaps it was a 280?

I was in college and interviewing for positions for after I graduated. Sadly to say, I don't remember which company sent the rep in the brand new 91 560 SEL, but I can remember every sight smell and sound of that car..... if they offered the car as an incentive, maybe I would remember the name of the company because I imagine I would be working for them now.[:D]

The first time I rode in a w126 was when I bought one – I remember my first MB ride, a w114 when I was in college. A mechanic friend of mine bought it because he considered it a ‘remarkable example of automotive engineering.’ The w114 was about 15 years old and it ran like a new car.

My first ride was when I purchased ol' blue. I wanted one after seeing Coming to America. The royalty cruising around NY in W126s. SWEET!

I first drove a W126 when working at Park Place LTD out of Bellevue Washington ( way over priced of corse ) But the feel of it was amazing. Working there I drove just about every high dollar car on the road. From old to new. I was the TEST driver, as Iwas more or less the mechanic for the cars, they trusted my judgment on things driveability wise. I forget which I drove first, may have been a 560SEC or some such, since they had so many, or an E300 ( not a 126, but still nice )... Soo, I saw my 280SEL and swaped my bike for it.

My first ride in a W126 was when my dad bought me the car around christmas a few months ago. I walked into the garage and found a Mercedes-Benz 420 SEL parked there and he said that was my car. He said it was supposed to be a High School graduation present but he decided to give it early. So yeah my first car is a Mercedes Benz and it gives me popularity in the school and with the ladies. [:D] But the first time I ever sat behind the wheel of a Mercedes was when I was five years old in my dad's Mercedes. I think it was a 1983 240 diesel or something like that. I didn't drive it, but I sat behind the wheel and pretended I was driving.

Anyhow, I plan on trading this car for one of the newer S class models. Or even better keeping this car and just buying a newer S class.[;)]

In 1982 I drove a '81 280SE manual from Auckland to Christchurch (about 1000km)as a delivery run to a car dealer.

The car was the smoothest I had ever been in , and the least stressful to drive .

The car was 5 times the price of my HOUSE !

It has taken me 20 years to own one [:D] and its a nice '88 300SEL , fabulous, safe, family car ..

Oh , yeah , and now the house is 50 times what the car is worth ........ there's a lesson there , somewhere [?][:D] [:D]

Fishcher-Price My First Ride in a W126!

"HEY! Almost forgot to tell you guys. 2 days after buying the new W140, the W201 decides it's upper strut bushings and lower tie rod had just about had enough. SOoooo... I limp her into the shop. Well, ironically, my Mercedes mechanic shop owner live right by my mom! (Worlds best mech/ worlds best mom unite!) Wife is out pushing the W140, so, who better to give me a ride home than my mechanic - in his "new" W126! Rough around the edges, but NICE! Handles true Benz, although I could tell there was still work to be down. 3 fold more road noise than my W140, but what doesnt have that outside a Lexus? Got in and "tried on" mucho W126's that day down at his shop, but that was my first ride. Damn, we to choose this lifestyle. I would go back fully to Acura, but then, I'd lose my mechanics."

April of 2002 when I bought my blackberry beauty. Strange but at the time I couldn't help but just sit there stareing over the hood and fixing my eyes on the hood star. I also remember pulling out of the dealer and it felt like it took an hour for the back wheels to pull out into the road[:D] it was a very good feeling.

It was 1984 and I got in my doctors car to move it. It was new about 3k on it, a 500sel and I just knew there was something "different" about this car.

What that difference is, well not important, but I got my first benz in 89, my 560SL.

Never looked back..got my 560sel, 560sec(sold) and my 300td wagon. The wagon is like motoring should be...a pleasent trip with ample road response and a feeling that if some poor bastard hits you, you have a chance to come out safe.

It was tested when a kid plowed into my 560sl from behind as I was at a standstill. He was in a buick century, an 85 or 86, and my SL became 1/2 size almost instantly. Still miss my SL...gotta get another one, has a 129 before but sid not like the seating adjustments so I sold that one..this time another 107 is called for.

Hey now, just cause a few teens drive bad doesn't mean all of them are bad drivers...Okay maybe a lot of them are bad drivers. I happen to be a teenager with a provisional license. But I drive a lot better and more efficiently than adult drivers. But I'll admit once I'm twenty years old I'm going to start saying "stupid teenagers" lol.
