It blinks fast to tell you one of the lights is not working. Put it on right turn and check the lights front and back.

In that case it may be a high resistance on one of the bulb connections, clean the connectors.

Fast blinking indicates a bulb problem....could be a short....turn the driver's side turn signal on...is it blinking fast? Yes? Problem is the left side. If not, do the right side.
Step on the brakes with the turn signal on....try both sides.

LoL, That happen'd to me at 4 am in the Morning on my way to Work , i stop't the Car until i found what it was, stuff Work punctuallity the Car has to be perfect ,lol , it took me ages to figure out that the W140's have 2 rear Blinker Bulbs ,anyway i changed them and all was good again but 1 of mine was blown at the Rear ,if your's does still blink (2 ) at the Rear try either swap the left side to right side just to see if it is the Bulbs wich are defective (sometimes they are ) otherwise i thing it could be the Relay.
1 Bulb is Bigger and 1 is slightly smaller ,the one on the round edge .
Ciao

mers320: is your car RHD ? In your 1st post you said "driver side turn signals blinks very fast ... but left side blinks normal." In any case, this symptom is probably caused by what everyone has said. It happens on all kinds of brands of cars. Many years ago this happened on my '74 Plymouth Duster - one of my first electrical lessons.

On some cars, depending on just which filament is bad, e.g. the front left is good but the rear left is bad, the good front left and the dashboard left arrow will come on, but just steady with no blinking. Depends on just what kind of blinker mechanism you have.

Years and years ago, the blinker item contained a piece of metal that initially made contact with something else and all the correct lights would be on once the turn stalk closed a switch. Once the current was flowing, the metal heated up, and eventually would bend away from the contact, and the lights would go out. The metal would cool, make contact again, lights on again, etc. etc. Nothing electronic -- just mechanical. These would also wear out about every 2 years.
***********************
After re-reading this, it may seem I'm saying the blinker mechanism is at fault. Au contraire, a bad bulb (or unclean bulb, or unclean socket contacts) is definitely the cause -- I'm guessing that different blinker mechanisms could produce slightly different symptoms : fast blinking, on but no blinking, not on at all, etc.
