So i have a customer that has an 1980 300D NA.

She came by the other day because she said and i quote "There like a ghost sound coming from my car." It sounds like a ghost and it does it at different speeds but comes and goes.

I figured out what it was, but just wondering what the first 5 posters say they think it was.

BTW when i say ghost she said and explained it sounded like a ghost "yelling".

Good luck guys

when i think "ghost yelling", i think something like, "woo-woo-woo-woo" in a vibrato kind of voice...

hmm, dependent on speed... speedo cable/speedometer?

or it could be the obvious wind-related-acoustic-aerodynamic factors?

Winner winner chicken dinner.

The screaming/yelling ghost was in fact her speedo cable :)

diesel - I've had this "ghost" issue fairly intermittently. I figured it was the speedo cable.. but what exactly was wrong with it? Was it a poor connection with the cluster or a bad cable all together? My speedo works fine, it's just once in a while heading to work in the morning it goes ghost on me.

cheers

When cold the lube/grease doesnt like to do its job that well but also adjusting it (remove and reinstall) will get rid of the sound most of the time.

When the car is cold or been sitting for a while its more likely to make the noise.
