:crybaby2: Today I was driving down the freeway when all of a sudden a metal giant box thing falls off a truck and sits on the freeway maybe 40 feet from my car.

Hitting my brakes I look right... concrete barrier... I look left... a line of cars... stop... Stop... STOP!!!... and BOOM my car strikes the metal object that at least weighed 50lbs.

Instantly sparks flew out in front and behind my car... smoke spewing out from the back. The dash lit up like a slot machine hitting a jackpot. And as the car was dragging the metal block I pull off the road until it got stuck in the gravel and I rolled over it as the engine shut off from some kind of failure.

Any ideas what this metal thing is? Anyways... I love my car... I hope it isn't too damaged.

The Bad news... $500 deductible and a 2hr wait for roadside assistance to get my location right... plus who knows how long till I have my S back (or in perfect condition).

The Good news... had my custom bar in the back of the car... even a highway trooper got a good laugh out of it as my wife and I had some vodka and waters waiting for help.

Because of my line of work... I am going to pull some strings and see if we can get a set of prints off the object... possibly isolate who it belongs to and find out how friendly they are when it comes to paying for damages. ;)

YOWSA!!

Glad no one was injured, hopefully the MB damage isn't too severe.

The object looks vaguely familiar to me, but I can't really say why or place it. If it comes to mind I'll post back.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Same happened to me....

Just bought my new 1994 BMW i730 driving done highway heavy traffic. Then bang ran over a very large metal tool box. Tool everywhere. The guy came back to pick up his tools and I got his name and number and his insurace paid for the damage to the bottom of my car.

p.s. it looks like a part to a gaurd rail.

Open liquor is not allowed in our state... it is legal until it is open. I checked with a cop and he said you can pull over... pull the key out of the ignition and you are set, drop the empties in the back and you are legit so long as your BAC is under .08.

RCW 46.61.519: Alcoholic beverages — Drinking or open container in vehicle on highway — Exceptions.

Key notes in the law itself:

It is a traffic infraction for a person to have in his possession while in a motor vehicle upon a highway, a bottle, can, or other receptacle containing an alcoholic beverage if the container has been opened or a seal broken or the contents partially removed.

It says it is a "traffic infraction"... I wonder if it would even go against my insurance?
