Recently bought this ML55 AMG. Completely stock, except for the trailer hitch which I'm not crazy about.

I really love this ML. I had looked at the ML500's but I really wanted the ML55. They're pretty hard to find, but I manage to find one in Chicago at Lake Bluff Mercedes, and bought it over the phone without even seeing it. Had it going 140mph on the way home

i know S550 has a newer engine and ML is AMG, but can you say which one of them is actually more powerful in practice? excellent collection btw.

The S550, hands down. It has 384bhp, where the ML55 has 342bhp. The S550 surprisingly only weighs 4465 lbs, where the ML55 is over 5000 lbs.

I decided to remove the trailer hitch. A local shop is doing the work, and fixing a small scratch in a door jamb while they're at it. I dropped it of this morning, and should have it back tomorrow.

I also ordered a 'backup' 10 disc navigation CD set from J in NJ, as my ML55 did not come with any navigation CDs.

I love the AMG Instrument Cluster... I kind of want to put one in MY2000 ML430, but i can already see a problem... mine goes to 140 his to 160, not to mention cost

It also incidentally just exactly the colour and year I'm also looking for - I plan to purchase either the ML500 or ML55 in July 2007.
Where did you find such a beauty (internet?) and how much did it set you back?
Please please, for those of us out there not lucky to have driven the ML55 yet, please just try and describe what the power and acceleration is like? How does it sound?
How's the ride? Too stiff as everyone keeps saying?

Thanks for that dewdaltz, I've seen that one and though it is really nice, I dont like the factory side steps and from the attachment, I dont think I can remove them without leaving big gaps on the side. I prefer the aftermarket sidesteps which are stainless steel.

I found it on mbusa.com doing a preowned certified nationwide search for ML class, and then sorted by model. There were only two certified ML55's for sale, one black in Vegas, and my Silver one in Chicago. I called the dealer, and bought it over the phone without even seeing it. Hopped on a train the next day to pick it up.

I paid $29,000 for it with no financing, and then another $2000 in taxes and registration.

The power is just okay. It's no match for my 911, or Ferraris..

I've never driven another ML before, so I have no frame of reference to compare it to 500's, 430's, and 320's. It certainly has some serious tromp for a 6000 lb SUV, and is great on the highway. I dusted a dude in a Chrysler 300 with a hemi on the way home from picking it up, if that's any indication...

I don't mind the ride. It's certainly not bouncy. It handles well, though the S550 totally outperforms it on every aspect... but it's also 5 years newer, with 2000 miles on it.

I see you have a 190e sportline. I had a 190e when I lived in NYC which had some e55 AMG rims on it. Looked nice.
