I installed a Mr 12 Volt Bluetooth adapter in my 2005 C230 Kompressor Coupe. Previously for Bluetooth I had been using a Tao Tronics car kit which was a Bluetooth adapter that plugged into the Aux input in the car and used power from the 12v cigarette lighter connector. It worked to a fashion, but the cables were unsightly and the dash looked sloppy with the ashtray door open all the time.

I had no idea that this kind of device existed. Since my CD changer is broken I decided to remove it to make more usable space in the glove box. When I did an ebay search to find out if my old broken CD changer has any value (it doesn't) I found these devices.

The device plugs into the CD changer connector for a stereo. If you don't have a CD changer you'll have to take apart the dash and remove the stereo in order to install this box. You'll also have to do whatever factory code updates on the receiver make it aware that there is a CD changer in the car. If you're going to all that trouble you may as well get an aftermarket radio IMO. There are some neat replacement units that will fit right in.

Since I already had the wiring for the CD changer the installation for me was extremely simple.

I only installed it today and haven't done anything with it yet other than what you see here so I don't know the ins and outs of how it works yet.

Did you get it on eBay? I can’t find anything called mr12volt.

Can you skip tracks using the stereo controls?

Yes I got it on eBay.

I have no connection to the seller other than as a satisfied customer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-A2DP-USB-adapter-Mercedes-Benz-W203-W211-W164-219-245-209-X164-R171/112420662443?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Yes it skips tracks using the stereo controls.

Phil, yes, please post a link for that eBay seller. That looks very much like the mCar unit I had in my CLK, but they quit making them. Both my SL and ML now have NT 2.5 COMAND units with Bluetooth handsfree so I don't need it, but almost every day i run across someone in the forums looking to add that or streaming to their older MBZ. This would be most helpful!

Link above and here again. It's listed under the brand name La Power or LaPower but the box and device say Mr 12 Volt.

It's the least I can do - I want to contribute so anyone searching will find this. It's a neat little box that works great. I've gotten so much valuable insight here (I got the fuse box info here yesterday when I was installing), I need to share more. I'll be upgrading my door speakers next I hope if the brackets I ordered from sonic electronics fit.

I love LOVE this little Coupe. I bought it from my wife when she upgraded to a CPO E350 last month and now I'm looking to make some improvements. I hope it holds up for a few more years. I just got the top re-lubed/serviced at the local M-B dealership.

Thanks, Phil! That is a great price for that module. The mCar unit was over $200, maybe close the $300.

I assume it that to do your pairing, you select alternate "discs" on the CDC interface to access those functions? That's how the mCar worked.

I haven't experimented with that yet. Honestly I may not even use the SD card or USB options. I can't see how the menus could work for folders and stuff. Maybe just to dump files. According to the device list you select another input then go back to the CD changer quickly to make it change inputs on the box. Not sure how it will work but I'll find out. and report back.

I would like more info on how the phone interface works. From what I've found it needs to get the address book from the phone on the "cradle". Not sure it will work right the way I Want.

I did some more experimenting over the weekend. I couldn't get the USB or the SD Card to play songs with all the songs in folders. I don't know what it takes to make those work, and frankly I don't really care. As long as it plays Bluetooth I'm happy that's what I wanted. The phone integration is perfect; it even works with the phone book somehow. I'm not sure where it's getting my contacts from, but it's reading a bunch of the contacts from my phone.

I have some replacement speakers to install; I'm hoping to get a noticeable upgrade in sound quality with new speakers front and rear.

I just migrated from Windows Phone to Android and whatever APIs or functions this box was using that made all my contacts come up in the dash under Windows Phone doesn't work with Android. Bummer.

You may need to do a COMAND reset, which you can do in SDS, or press and hold the COMAND power button until it reboots.
