Just out of curiosity, what is the MPG on the 05 G55. Mercedes says that it is TBA (to be announced) on their website. I am used to getting btwn 10/11MPG on my G500

My 2005 G-55k (with approx. 3600 miles on the odo.) is averaging right at 10 MPG in mostly around town driving. I imagine that the milage will improve slightly as the engine loosens up over the next couple of thousand miles. According to the EPA, (www.fueleconomy.gov), the rated mileage is 12 MPG city, and 14 MPG highway. The testers must have been very careful to not let the supercharger spool up during their runs!

you have to love the large gas tank. The ML500 has slightly better gas mielage but i have to take it in more often for fill ups. Infact, we picked up a mini cooper as a buddy for the G due to the gas issue. If only gas prices were where they were 5 years ago....

On the highway I've gotten over 16. 13.5 is more common. Around town I'm in the 10.5 range.

there're people who floored a G55, reporting what i can report from pushing the G560 to the limit:
5.9 !

i asked the question cause i was on the PA turnpike a couple days ago and i was running late. I hopped on at the valley forge exit and basically cruised at about 100mph ( i was quite surprised at how competant the car was at that speed)....i swear i saw the gas guage move at a surprising rate....i did notice that people moved out of the left lane without any prompting from my part.

If my G500 sucked gas like it was 5min to the close of happy hour, i was wondering what a G55 did

Well:

But serious,
not much more, when you use the same speed.
The air resistance is the main problem of the design and the G55K is so powerful, that you don't feel it.

This truck ain't cheap at 89.9p per litre for Optimax gas.

Yeah but mine's a diesel: sedate but reliable!

Nevertheless I agree with you on the extortionate fuel prices over here.

yes, that is about 45L to 100km, if you go full throttle.
keep in mind that the G560 and obviously even more the G55K, @ full throttle are reaching speeds (and therfore air-resistence) that your car will never experience, not even in free fall from a cliff....
