I've read the posts about these separately and wonder if there isn't an all-inclusive solution. Maybe I'm dreaming, but is there any way to upgrade the head unit (non-comand) and get the ability to play an mp3-filled CD, use bluetooth connectivity through the car's phone system, and have it all work with the steering wheel controls and all that??

I see some units by Becker here: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/radios.html

...that look fairly promising, but who knows if they'd work right with the car?

i replaced the head unit with a Pioneer N1 which is a nav/dvd/mp3 unit with 7" screen and i can play mp3's no problem but you will lose your steering wheel functionality with any upgrade no matter the brand. Downside is that but upside is sound quality and you can play mp3 or depending on the head unit, watch dvd's and get nav. As far as bluetooth, nothing i have seen yet on that for the car.

My understanding is that multi-function steering wheels CAN control after-market head units. I've read about a couple of solutions. Here's one that I found:

Anyone ever try this?

It'd be interesting to see if that would still display track/station info below the speedo. I'd be impressed if it did.

I also found these two links: http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2157

..which talks about the Becker Traffic Pro 7945 head unit, which does both.

and

http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=2143

...which has info about aftermarket bluetooth car kits. You wouldn't get steering wheel connectivity, so why not just use an earpiece, aye?

Does Becker even make or sell radios for the US? All the sites I'm finding are German.
