You got a deal on the A/C, most places on average charge $2500 at least. Mine was $3300, but they also replaced the heater core, dryer and receiver, but that may be the usual thing everyone has done while the instrument panel is out.

I would say after that, the wiring harnesses.

Rebuilding the rear suspension, if it needs struts and you want to keep SLS...

FYI - on the coupe two front window regulators are $1700 + tax + labour- so 3k there.

my father took the car to a shop to fix the overheating problem and the oil leak, heres the bill.

needless to say when the car was handed down to me it was still overheating, the fan clutch never disengages, fan relay looks like the original part, and still pouring oil out of the lower oil pan.
i recommend everyone stay far away from euro tech imports in rancho cucamunga.

I just went back and looked through my 202 pages of service records... :) The highest I seen was indeed my A/C repairs and it was actually $3144.00. The next one down was the engine wiring harness and some other repairs mixed in, which made that bill around $1800... also on that invoice it stated where the "actuator" was replaced (part alone was $768). Not even sure what the actuator is. lol.

Also most recently the PO had the ignition wires replaced, spark plugs as well as many other ignition components and it was around $800. Valve cover gaskets in April, that was $500 and some change.

Definitely not cheap cars to service and when I think about it sometimes, I ask myself why didnt I buy another W126 S-Class or a Honda Accord, but I love this car. LOL.

For the 600 models, front suspension rebuild is more costly. Front shocks go for $900 vs $650 at the rear.

misfire/ limp home problems can also be costly as it can go in all sorts of directions and before you know it, you've already replaced half the engine bay and various other things underneath and in the back of the car.

It is silly not to DIY on these cars because you will pay through the nose. I'd never own one of these if I could not wrench on one. It better to throw your money into home, but not a silly car, maybe a Ferrari where it appreciates over time better than a W140.

I just came from pick-your-part in Southern California, and witnessed a person pay 300 bucks of a M120 engine(V12) with transmission. What a shame of a car of over $100k just 15 years ago.

Basically, You will go broke if do not wrench on these W140's. Do not get one if you do not plan on working one. They are just too expensive!!

A/C, self-closing doors, SLS components. W140s are sweet but can burn a real hole in your wallet if your not a DIYer
