RE: Mobil 1

I'm told costco is cheap if you know a member, otherwise get on the train / ferry to France.[:)]

I have looked on line and can not find anything useful.

I have got a service coming up in around 1500 miles, any idea what MB charges?
They may make Halfords look like a real bargain [:(][:(]

I have similar concerns about the likely cost of oil at a service. Many people supply their own oil apparantly - even so at a tenner a litre even Halfords aint cheap.

Just had service B done at 15.5K. 8 litres of Mobil 1 was £85 + VAT! Total for service was £227 incl. VAT. Actually not as bad as I thought but still expensive for an oil and filter change [:0]

Just had a look at the Mobilo Life part of the MB site and it says:

Yes, MobiloLife will cover you for two years* for:
- Loss of Keys
- Low oil/coolant level
- Battery Failure
- Tyre Damage

*Please ask for details according to your vehicle´s registration date.

So how about asking the MB dealer to top up the oil if needed within the first 2 years. Will not cover replacement oil during the service though.

So thats almost 100 notes for the oil then against 80 at Halfords. So even if they bought it from Halfords they would be making a good margin.

I am sure the local dealer said 300 for the first service 227 sounds a lot better I will check nearer the time.

As long as you don't have two punctures at the same time.

Then they will try and charge you £185 to tow you in and refuse to loan you a car whilst you're waiting 3 days for replacement tyres.

Oh and when you complain to customer service they'll advise you join the AA/RAC.

Thanks MB.

When picking up my car I was told service C would cost £300 - £400 due to the extra work involved. When I asked what the extra work was, I was told "We carry out a lot more inspection work, we actually take all the wheels off and check the brakes for wear!" Wow, that's £150 for taking 4 wheels off. Good value, I don't think [:(!]

RE: Mobil 1

Just been trawling and found this site, never tried them, but just been going through my last service cost and was charged £15 a litre for Mobil 1. This site charges £100 for 16 litres (4x 4 litres) plus about £15 p&p basically cheaper than half the price my stealer charged me. Just not sure my stealer will accept oil I provide them with, should not make any difference, but I expect that's how they make such big profits.

I am not sure what the dealers charge for mobil 1 either here or in the UK. But, I can go to the Exxon-Mobil station here an pick it up for $2.49/quart when it is on sale. I bought a quart a couple of months ago to top off my slk.

I second both those statements,

To date, Costco in the UK is the cheapest place i have found for Mobil 1

and servicing is cheaper on the continent if you happen to find yourself over there ;-)

I need some oil soon, so would be interested to know if Costco is cheaper than £6.21 (inc Vat) per litre?

Also, has anyone in UK provided their dealer with oil and it has been accepted to be used in the service?

In my experience most MB dealers will accept oil without question, give your local dealers service dept a call and see what they say.

You can also call costco whether you are a member or not, to check the current price of mobil 1.
(and if you do find yourself there, costco is also the cheapest place to pick up TyreSlick, the best tyre black treatment i have ever used)

I have about 3 litres in my garage doing nothing as I won't need it anymore now the SLK has gone.A donation to charity would be enough to secure it but I live in Cheshire & mailing it may be a problem.[;)]
