Hello folks.

I recently picked up a 2002 ML55 AMG, and it has a factory installed trailer hitch. I already have another truck which I use to haul my boat around, and I was curious if it's easy to remove, and if there is a panel available to fill the hole in the rear bumper.

thanks in advance

Congrats! That's a really nice purchase! What color? Post pics please!

There are many here who may be interested in your hitch, if you want to sell.

Congrats on the new ride. You have to remove the rear bumper to get access to the bolts that hold on the hitch. New plastic covers are available at the dealer and when I bought one last year it came pre-painted.

the reasons KEEP your hitch..

Congrats on your car.

There are (2) important reasons to keep your hitch:

1) The OEM hitch really saved my car from serious damage on a 40mph rear-end collision (I was stopped at a stoplight) - the hitch is bolted to the frame, and transfered the rear end impact to the frame... as a result the other guy looked like shit, but my ML only needed rear bumper panel touchup

2) The guys want you to take off your hitch and sell it - the OEM hitch for the W163 is getting to be a rare item, no longer in production, and the after market hitch from Draw Tight is honestly a poor second.

Keep your hitch - it can save you and your car some serious damage from somebody else's thoughtless rear ender - and keep it since you will find replacing it a hard thing... get a tasteful hitch plug/cover all silver like this 2-tone gold/silver one..

thanks for the responses. I have no intention on selling the hitch, I just don't want it on the SUV. Does the cover plate from Duval come painted?
Looks like it does.......................but I would call to make sure.

ML55 Receiver Hitch wanted

Does anyone know where you can find a receiver hitch for the ML55? I just picked up a 2001, and I really would like to have a hitch installed - or put it on myself. Any leads would be awesome!

I picked up my OEM hitch, reinforcement brackets, and wiring BRAND NEW off ebay for 300 dollars. It was a STEAL, seeing as I see them going for almost $1000 dollars on ebay USED!!

I have a '01 ML55 with a hitch on it, can anyone tell me if there is an OEM painted coller that goes around the base? It should mount in where the cover came out, it looks kind-a bad.

If you don't need that anymore once removed, I would like to buy it. Send me message at [email protected]
