I am planning a weekend away this weekend, and tried to remove the spare tire in order to give me room to bring my golf clubs.

The ML55 has its spare on the INSIDE DRIVER REAR of the vehicle. When I removed the tire and the kit that comes with it, I found that it was held in place by a very sturdy-looking black metal mount. There isn't a lot of light in my garage to see what the mount is connected to in the wall of the vehicle.

So, I figured I would wait to tackle this until I spoke to you guys first. Is the spare mount bolted on in there? or welded?

Thanks!

After deciding that it would be far too much work to remove, I just left my spare tire anchor in there. In fact, the girlfriend and I went on a weekend camping trip last year, put a foam mattress in the back and the ML55 made a nice little sleeping area. The anchor didn't get in the way and I've been driving it like that ever since.

On the other hand, if someone out there reveals that it's easy to remove, I'm all ears for the process.
