Thanks for the effort on making the video Peter.

Just a couple of notes that people can decide for themselves and their climate.

MB has gone to the recommendation of using the fleece fiber filters.
Also the oil should meet MB Spec 229.5. All we use is the Mobil 1 0w40 or the Total Quartz 9000 5w40. There are lots of 229.5 spec oils. The ones I listed are easily obtained in my area.

Noodles, can you provide brands for the filters or is it noted on the packaging. Never looked to see what the filter material is, just buy high end brand.

On most of the web stores I looked at they will say fleece or paper. And not much difference in the price.

Am I the only one here looking at this and thinking "nice video" right up to the point where I noticed the OP was Hawaii all nice and warm?:D

Enjoyed the video. Very well done! This is the singularly most important DIY task for an ML owner...also the easiest ! I prefer the suction method but the results are identical.

I would add that it is very important to check the level again , AFTER the engine has been run at idle for a few minutes. Allow the oil to fully drain back into the sump and then check with the dipstick. Often you will need to add a small amount to bring it to the proper level.

Also, please note that the filter comes with five new O-rings.Two are identical. Only the four are required to be replaced , as the video describes.

I highly recommend the outfit oilchangekits.com for one-stop shopping convenience. See below:

I'am wanting a w163,can you if you wanted to drain oil from the bottom? Also I read where cotton fleece filters had the cotton hulls in the cotton, that could get loose in your oil.

Actually, the weevils proved to be more problematic in cotton fleet oil filters - my Blackstone oil analysis kept coming back exceeding the MB spec for insect parts, but always within spec for hulls.

When I bought a polyester blend llama and switched wool fleece filters this problem was solved. :D

To answer your first question, yes the oil pan has a drain plug. You can drain it from the bottom.
