Hi - new here - recently bought a late 2010 350 cdi with the amg kit.
I'm having a really hard time getting used to the throttle response. I'm not sure if its normal but i feel like when i put my foot down to go - i can count to 3 before anything happens.
I thought it was a transmission issue but i dont think the problem is that its not in-gear - it seems like the throttle just is delaying telling the computer to go ? Ive read some of the other posts which seem to have a similar issue but I'm not sure.
Is it something to do with a delay for the brakes to release or shifting out of gear thinking its about to go into park? the hill start function? it doesnt seem consistent - sometimes when rolling to a stop then taking off ( like at a give way sign ) it does it and other times it doesnt. makes it really hard to know if i can get into gaps of traffic etc.

I've had turo diesels before so i understand how they behave - my last was a range rover sport and this is nothing like turbo lag - there just feels like nothing is going on for 2-3 seconds.

I've also noticed the gear box on changes is pretty rough - on very light acceleration it will actually rev up a little between changes but under hard acceleration it doesnt. overall though it seems like the gearbox is generally confused about what to do - which is hard to accept after the rr sprot was so good with its auto and i expected the merc to be... well... better ?

Do i have a major issue or is this just the way they are ? It's only got 20k on it now and ive had it since 12k so it can't be due for a service on the gearbox surely ?

Thanks for any help.

sounds like turbo lag, although 3 seconds is really too long, best thing to do is take it into dealer for diagnostics

thanks everyone for the help
the clutch in the box seems to be it - tried hitting the + before i take off on the way to work this morning and it didn't pause at all. I'll keep trying - but it seems to solve the issue.
thanks!

Bit of a dredge, but thanks to contributors for commenting here. Drove the ML350CDI I bought my wife (about 7 months ago) for the first time last week and was astounded by the 2 and a bit second acceleration delay off idle.

It's definitely not turbo lag, it's that damn 'shift into neutral' function. It's awful! If I cared that much about mileage, I would have bought a Kia!

I drive a LS3 powered HSV Grange (Chev Caprice to you guys) and a turbo diesel Jeep Wrangler, and while the Chev is supposed to haul off the mark the 2.8l Jeep should be a comparative slug. But it pegs the Merc off the line.....

Anyways, thanks for the bulletin and I will press the + button when I drive it next. :)

From other posts that I have made and the lack of response forthcoming, I would suggest this problem is unique to Australia delivered MY10 ML350CDI models. Other parts of the world had the Bluetech engines at this time.

Canadian and US posters don't seem to understand just how bad this problem is. Best described as bloody dangerous.

Good news, it is completely cured for the W166.

check 2 things:
1. transmission software - it seems that every update is 'hit and miss' - it could be much better or worse; it is not necessary that the latest update give you the best result but for sure you should be close to the newest. Check with dealership if they have the latest update and comment
2. I put speed booster (along with Kleeman KD Box) - adding 50 HP with Speed Booster 'drive by wire' (old but more efficient technology) helped me to get close to gas engine performance. it is 300 $ very well invested

I have been through all that zemun. But we have a different trans version to you.
As I mentioned, you have to every month call dealership and ask if they have any software update (usually the software update is done when you bring car for regular maintenance).

I got friend in service department who advised me when I should update or not. You have newer car and it it going take many updates  until they get it right (it is unbelievable that newer update could do worse but ...). :crybaby2:

I am speaking from expierence :D

ps. you have different transmission but probably the same coders are writing code for both engines
