I have 15000 miles and 2 air compressors have gone bad.It seems like whenever I raise or lower the ML the compressos goes bad. Is Mercedes going to build a better Compressor?Has anyone had problems with this? Thanks Jim

Is the dealer replacing the compressor and the compressor relay? They must both be replaced at the same time. If the relay is not replaced, the compressor can run continuously; and burn out quickly.

The airmatic compressors are a $$ maintenance item. Check the S forum for more horror stories.

Are the later ones reliable yet? 2007/2008's?

"...compressor and the compressor relay?"
I have a 2008 ML320 cdi with air ride.
How do you identify the relay and where is it located

Relays are notorious in ML 164's for killing the Airmatic pump.
It's relatively easy to read and repeat info. Dealers never replace pump only. It's cheap insurance and like the members here who've had more than one replaced well worth the cost.
I've replaced our pump and did the relay for reliability.
