Hey Team,

I understand that it is safe to use Zerex G-05 in my 2013 e350.

However, my question is a bit nuanced:
Is it safe to top up and mix OEM Coolant with Zerex G-05?

ChatGPT does not recommend it, but it's not too confident in its answer....

Thanks!

Please do due diligence and research on this site:

Mercedes-Benz Operating Fluids

which used to be bevo. Note that I've seen G-48 there but not G-05 for Sheet No. 325.0 , which is the older spec that I've seen for decades. Color has transitioned from yellow, to blue, to most recently pink. I was told that the yellow and blue are compatible but upon researching on the site I've linked I do not believe the yellow/blue are compatible with the pink, which is of Sheet No. 325.6 (concentrate) or 326.6 (prediluted).

(EDIT- pink is of the G40 variety, while aftermarket fluids tend to be Violet).

(I'm afraid I do not know your engine designation off hand otherwise I would check, it's on 320.1 if you search under Coolant).

The G48 is the product to use in this case.
It is at many parts stores as a 50:50 ready to use premix. I used to have a lot of MB jugs that were the concentrate
but from my understanding the dealers are using the premix in a MB jug.
BASF is the patent holder of the "G" series fluids. There are just a hand full of manufacturers paying the license fees to make
the fully compatible stuff. Valvoline, Pentosin, Glysantin and now Mobil. There may be a couple of others in parts
of the world that we would not see in North America.

I prefer to use the concentrated gallons and make a 50/50 mix with distilled water, which has no impurities. Also, a 26usd gallon concentrate when mixed w a $1 distilled water gallon makes coolant @ $13.50 per each gallon cost, which is cheaper than buying 2 gallons of premix.
