Engine light came on. Engine runs rough. Expected bad cylinder but free Auto zone code reader says three cylinders bad. I pulled 5 and 6 coils and plugs. Plugs looked rusty and coil packs had cracks on back. Probably taking to Indie benz shop for deeper code reading. Plugs were changed about 45k miles ago at about 110k miles.

Difficult to tell from photo's but those Plugs look like they have done more than 45k miles to me, and yes cracked Coils indicate that they have got hot internally, they need replaced for sure ;)

Were all three cylinders on the same bank, i. e. was 7 or 8 also bad?

Aito zone code reader indicated 3, 5. 6. Took it to India shop today to get codes read at noon. They never called back.cant believe it takes more than 5 hours to read codes. I used LLG plugs and indie owner said they only use Bosch. Where can I get OEM or better coils and how much $ am I looking at for parts?

Personally with Ignition Coils, I would onl use MB, whether that be Brand New or good used, there are plenty good used ones, M112 or M113 all use the same coils ;)

Plugs, I use NGK, Bosch are fine too, they would be the only ones I would use, and beware of fakes on on line sites ;)

Bosch is good for coils as well; I believe they're the OEM. That's what's on the wife's 2000 S500 when I did the whole side a few years ago. @Smokinb , I believe Bosch is the OEM for the plugs as well, and that's what I use on M112/M113 engines. The part # is FR8DPP33+.

Intial auto zone report said 3,5,6 cylinders were misfiring. Car is at indi shop now. Been there two days for in depth code read. I'm scared their diagnosis will be hundreds at this point. Money I could be putting toward parts.

$190 diagnostic. How much is SDS star system? Indie said cylinder 6 only was bad and recommended coil, wires and plugs at $962 parts and labor, plus tax. They also recommended two front control arm bushings at $1136 and new coolant resevoir and sensor at $307 and $100 alignment.

$400 - $600, which is exactly why every MB owner should have one, btw IMHO that Dealer is "Dick Turpin"

Dealer that did the diagnostic was independent guy... not Benz Dealership, which i'm guessing would have been way more. i like the idea of having my own SDS system. Are they just available on eBay? My wife drives a E350 and my son wants to get a GL450, so i would have lots of opportunity to use it i guess. my plan is to change all the plugs and replace coil #6 and wires. I may check all the coils and replace all that have cracks.

Ali Baba is the best place to get SDS, there have been a few posts recently about certain Vendors that are recommended by members in USA. For the Cars you speak of latest Software is fine, and get C4 SD Connect Mux and Lead Set, with HDD or SSD can use any laptop with C4.

As for the Coils yes any with Cracks should be binned ;)

Yep, as Dave said, replace all ignition coils with cracks in 'em.

You just made the case for picking up an SDS setup. I have two setups; one is a C3, which I use most of the time, and the other is a C4, which I use occasionally. Why the C3? Just 'cause it's handier most of the time, that's all; my C4 has so far worked just as well. If you had any idea of how much my SDS has saved me over the last what--four years?--that I've had it, you'd already be on Ali Baba/Express buying one. :)

The FleaBay sellers are just importing them from the Chinese factories and marking them up. You can go that route if you wish, but Dave's right; the best source really is on either AliBaba or AliExpress.
