I have not been an active member of this forum, although I have lurked here from time to time, learning a little more about these cars. I am looking for someone to buy my 1993 500SEL and I would prefer to sell the car to someone who appreciates this model, so that it might go on to a good home.
I am the second owner. When I was searching for an S-class in 1997, I looked at everything for sale in a five-state area, over a period of six months, before I found this one. Even back then, it was difficult to find a car that had no mechanical or cosmetic issues. I bought the car with a little over 51,000 miles on it and have since added another 42,000, averaging a little over 4,000 miles per year. We have used the car primarily for family trips and weekend getaways. We have many other cars, including other Mercedes, so this one hasn't been used as a daily driver. It's never seen snow and seldom seen rain. It is kept in a climate-controlled garage. I keep a battery tender on it when not driving it. Although I have not put many miles on the car each year, it has not been allowed to sit for extended periods of time either.
It is Artic white with Orion gray leather. The car is well optioned, as are most 500s. It has electric/memory seats with electric lumbar support in front and electrically adjustable rear seats and rear headrests. Both front and rear seats are heated. It has the factory 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. The car is bone stock, except for a set of European head lights that I fitted a few years ago. I'll sell it with or without the stock lights.
It has never been wrecked, has no dings or dents and the paint is in excellent condition. The interior is exceptional, with no visible wear to the leather. The carpets are all original and clean, including the floor mats. We are non-smokers and no one else has been allowed to smoke in the car. I have not seen a nicer S-class of this vintage in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is where I live.
The wheels are in great shape and the tires were replaced with Michelins at 74,000 miles. They still have plenty of life left. The car has had regular alignment and tire rotations. It drives very nicely at high speeds with no trace of shimmy or the front- end problems that can affect these cars. The rear self-leveling suspension units were replaced at 80,000 miles. The brake rotors and pads, on both front and rear, were replaced at 75,000 miles.
The car has been regularly serviced per the schedule, including frequent changes of the engine coolant and brake fluid. The usual updates have been performed with respect to things like the A/C evaporator, closing assist pump, engine wiring harnesses and the things that tend to be a problem on these cars, sooner or later. Everything on the car works properly.
I have had the car serviced exclusively by the local Mercedes dealer, as I know most of the staff there and have been taking my cars there for decades. I'd be happy to provide contact information to any prospective buyers that wish to inquire about the car's service history. I do maintain a file, containing all of the records for the work that has been done. I have over $24,000.00 in service receipts, so you can guess that I was pretty diligent about taking care of the car's needs.
I am selling the car because I just bought my wife a new car that will get used on long trips. We own 22 other cars and I can't justify keeping this one if it won't get used very frequently. I am also selling a 2000 E320 4-matic wagon, which was her daily driver, if anybody has an interest in one of those.
Thanks for the bandwidth,
Jeff Roberts.
