there’s a 91 300 SE up for auction at about $1500 more than I paid with 20,000 more miles.

She seems to be in good condition but I would not pay that much.

Man, I envy you guys and your cheap prices. Here in Aus that same 560SEL would’ve sold for at least 25K (US 18K).

i had some limited communication with the gentleman that was selling on ebay that 91 560 sel referred to above in my quest to find one (i didn't buy it). in addition to the apparent stellar condition of the body and interior, the car REALLY was taken care of from day one as to maintenance ,,, all records of service done at the local benzo dealer, all scheduled maintenance done on time (or early in the case of the big 100k service). it really really is a good example of a pampered w126. even with 105k on the clock, the winner looks like he got him/herself a nice car.

with a w126 in such great condition, maybe 10k was a good deal? hard to say ,,, i think the kbb values go out the window when you are discussing these cars ,,, too much emotion involved. and to find a good one with low miles and all the maintenance done, i would assume, as scarce as they are, it would command a premium over the $10k or so that kbb discloses as retail value. don't know. alas, my search continues ,,,

A 126 in that condition with those miles without books, $5500 to $6500, with books maybe $8000, but that’s pushing it and she’d need to have her COMPLETE books from mile one. Although laudable that the 100,000 mile service was done - I assume we’re talking about t chain and guides, among other things – that should not have an impact on the selling price. Many sellers don’t understand that regardless of what money you put in the car, you won’t get that money back when you sell.

apologies ,,, just (re)read my message and noted i wasn't very clear in what i was trying to say. the ebay car had a kbb of $7500 and sold for $10k with 105k miles. if you run a kbb with low miles (say <50k miles), a value of $10k comes back on a hypothetical car. all i was saying was that if a car like that is located, and has been taken car of, a premium over the $10k might be warranted ,,, depends on the buyer's 'yearn' for a good w126.

i agree with the previous post about not getting back $ put into a car. normal maintenance should be done without the expectation that the seller would be reimbursed for it ,,, the value of that mainenance would inherently be in the selling price of the car, i would think?

Yes, I agree. And a car is worth what the buyer (market) is willing to pay – if a 560 goes for $10k, or $20k, for that matter, that’s what the car is worth. I’m just not willing to pay that much.
