I have a real problem with the gouging by MB in general, but particularly with the "proprietary" cell phone deal. I have seen several interesting mentions by forum members on "MikBox". Their website doesn't have a lot of detail. Have any of you bought one? If so does it work well? Cost? Will it work with a SLK that never had any kind of MB phone? (mine is a 2002) Sorry for all the questions, but if it works, this MikBox sounds pretty neat.

I am in the process of installing one. I tried it with my Motorola T720 and couldn't get it to work but Mik had told me it had never been tested with that phone. It worked great with a friends V60. I'm planning on upgrading to a V551 next week which has been tested and works. Mik has been great to work with. My car had a MB phone installed (but never activated), but if you have never had a MB phone in your car you do need some other parts: a PSE (Personal Support Electronics), and probably a linear compensator and antenna switch. You should probably email Mik to be sure of what you need. Most people try to find those pieces on ebay. You should also do a search on this site for more info, people have put this into many different models (try searching on "Mikbox" & "all posts"). There is also a lot of good info at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/integrated_phones.htm. Total cost for the Mikbox and phone cradle with cables was $308 including shipping (obviously the phone is not included). Hope that helps.

Paul's website (link above) also has copies of the MB bulletins on the MB phone installation (if you dig around). They are very good. They have pictures and give you the exact part numbers for the various pieces you will need. I think for a 2002 it is at http://phdwebsite.powerpulse.cc/Phone Install Bulletins/SLK 02-00.pdf.
