But I thought the Model3 was supposed to be "affordable".
3% inflation compounded over 10 years is nearly 35% anyway and in 2008-9 we were at the height of the credit crunch.
Non story.

Inflation, much as Auto loans, are not compounded.... unless you're English.

Low rate 96 month loans have been around for a long time and were reserved for those with super strong credit. Rich people buying expensive cars not wanting to tie up their money on payments.

Now if you credit score is over 600 and have a job you may keep for a couple of months, you too can own that Kia Van...

I'm always amazed on how much money is thrown away on interest.. For me.. I always pay cash.. If I don't have it, I don't buy it.. All of my friends owe 100s of thousands of dollars and don't own a thing.. Me.. I own my farm, cars, tractors, boats, etc.. and make less money than they do.. Most of them can't figure out "How does Bobby do it.. He only works two days a week"...

I agree...3% pa inflation...is compounded. How is it not?

Try it. Put $10,000 in your calculator and now add 3% 10 times...what do you get...$13,439...or 34.4% over a 10 year period.

How would you do it? (Would you take $300 and multiply that by 10...duh).

More to the point put $1000 in the bank at 3% interest for 10 years. What do you expect at the end? $1000 plus 10 x $3 = $1030 dollars or $1000 x 1.03 to the power 10 = $1300 and change?

Anyway. Also figure what else you get in cars these days that you didn't in 2009: backup cameras, lane change avoidance, anti collision radar, better (?) gas mileage and / or lower emissions... None of those in my 08 AMG CLK63...

Then figure in that 2008-9 was the height of the credit crunch, Ford, GM and Chrysler all went bust (or nearly did) and were desperate to sell cars, and...

I've always subscribed to the notion that the perfect city car looks like a complete clunker on the outside with as many dents as possible, but with a sweet motor under the hood and a nice interior.
Amazing how many Rolls Bentleys etc get out the way when they see a clunker coming...

What do you think about my idea of the perfect city car? Thinking after her superb performance this week, including crossing an 11000 ft mountain pass in a blizzard yesterday, on tidying up the inside of the Discovery, then adding steel bumpers, winch, driving lamps etc. If I had my way to be followed by getting a rust effect car wrap...

That's the plan.

O work in the Galleria area of Houston - all fur coat and no knickers as Glaswegians say - watch all those G-wagons scoot out the way...
