I recently bought myself a gorgeous 1984 380SL. It’s just a weekend driver so I won’t be putting many miles on it. Because of that I opted to insure it though Metromile, a pay per mile insurance company

I know the ’84 SL doesn’t have an OBD port so Metromile sent a cigarette lighter adapter in order to power it

I don’t want to use the cigarette lighter adapter, and instead hard wire it in to a 12v connection.

Has anyone done anything like this before? What connection point might be the best for this? Can I wire it directly to the battery?

thanks from a noob!

DO NOT wire to the battery! I would wire it up via the ignition, so it's only powered when the car is powered/running. I don't know what Metromile is, but you probably have some sort of GPS they use to verify location and miles driven. You could tao into the power lead for the lighter, and power it that way.
