I previously mentioned that Claude had told me that one of my mounts was toast and was just banging around. The really bad news is that the engine shifts around enough that the fan engages the shroud. It is gradually eating it away.

Criminy!

I looked up 'criminy'. It does not mean...

"I should get that fixed"

What you should have said was.."Please fix it Claude."

I told him I'd schedule an appointment. Meanwhile, thanks, Fan. I'll get busy on that.

Just because Nobby says to, I checked with Annapolis Mercedes. Seventy Five bones for brand new. Ships in 3 days.

The ebay item starts at $50 and shipping is $17 so if I win it at rock bottom, $67 for used (and slightly damaged) or $75 for new and I can break it myself, thanks.

For 8 bucks, I'll go new. Thanks again Fan. And Nobby.

Since things are beginning to heat up with the "restoration" I began to think about what else I needed. Claude mentioned that when he installs the new motor mounts next Wednesday, he needs to loosen the fan shroud. I realized this would be the perfect opportunity to replace the chewed up original.

I was thinking of posting a quick question on the subject but, knowing how annoying it is when people post without using the available tools, I tried a search first.

Imagine my surprise to find the exact answer to my question.

You're going to leave everyone hanging?
Remove the two spring clips from the top and disengage the lower hook. Its about a 15 minute job. 14 min 30 seconds to do the paper work and bring the car into and out of the shop and 30 seconds to 30 second to remove the shroud.

Why should I do it when Claude is doing it anyway? One bad motor mount...gone. Shroud replaced and steering box slightly adjusted for slackness.

Also, the new 560 front end showed up via FedEx today. It may well be the sexiest piece of plastic I own.
