Hi I have a w220 S320,2000 model... had it running really rough and found that the fuel filter had metal filings or partices in it which I also found stuck in 2 of the injectors...
Any idea as to what internally could of caused this?

First thought would be a failing fuel pump. Alternatively, if the fuel pump had been replaced, it could be from screws or bolts mounting the pump in the tank.

It's a shame that the fuel filter didn't pick it all up. If you can actually see the metal filings, how on earth did they get past the filter?

Internal corrosion in the fuel line before and after the filter? Has the car been stored dry at any time? Maybe repair that required the lines to be removed and allowed to dry then reinstalled? I'm with you Derek, you can see filings--they ought not have got past the filter.
