Hi, There is a Metal Friction Noise coming from my rear Brakes. It’s not the first time I have this issue for more than a year. I complain about that much time to the dealer workshop and every time they readjust the brakes and clean. Which not solving the problem I told them check the rear break cylinder it may not releases after applying a brakes and may that was the resone where I change my rear brakes pad twice with the front one . where in usually almost of the car consume the front pads first . The service advisers said “ sir this is because ML is a heavy car and it’s brake performance is so high and the ABS apply on all wheel SO it’s normal for that where the Rear brake run faster than the front one “ It’s not coming since ? My friend got Dodge Durango which is much higher than ML and he say I replace my rear one after three time replacing the front one. I thing the Service adviser can’t diagnose the problem. And idea of same problem in ML and how to solve it. Thanks

Do you notice any scouring on the rotors? If all the rotors are smooth then the problem may be with

the rear emergency brake. You could have a worn out brake shoe. But that's very easy to diagnose and I don't think they'd have missed that. Also, you can only check the outside of the rotors visually. To see the complete rotors, the tires have to come off and you'll have to go under the truck to check the rotors. Scraping during braking is due to onr thing only - metal portion of pads rubbing against the rotor.

One other cause may be improperly adjusted emergency brakes which will cause one or more of the inside pads to not sit flat on the rotor. The pad may wear, usually on the top portion and cause a rubbing noise.

Another cause, malfunctioning calipers - the result is like the one described above, pads cocked at an angle with only the top or bottom wearing prematurely and causing noise. I don't know how many pistons the ML brake calipers have, but it'd be rear to have this happen.

have someone take off all the tires and ask them to allow you to take a good look at ALL the brake rotors. That'll be a first step.

Thanks Darkmann
I all ready do all the checks and some more but the problem is still their ? Last time I scemed the Surface of the Rotor and changed the Pads. The Friction noise and the whistle noise Quite for a while. But after 1000 Km every thing returned as it was. Whistling at low speed from front brakes and friction Noise from the rear one? It's very difficult to explain this satiation where you can hear the Friction clearly if you drive next to a wall or Pavement at IDLE speed. I Jake the Car and try to Rotate the Wheel !! The Friction Noise is easy to hear even after they adjusts all the calipers and cleaned the Pads. Also I felt that the wheel is not smooth in rotating which mean there is some thing holding it even there is NO brake applied. The service adviser just give up and say This is Normal Sir all M-Class are like this. So I replay if all M-Class like this Why you didn't say that in the beginning and save my money????? They are Sh.. [:(!]
I'm going to try to talk to the Manager or the MB in Germany by e-mailing them this problem BUT I'm lake in information. [?]

I've got the same noise, sounds like a brake pad/shoe dragging. It only happens when moving and engine RPM or gear does not make a difference. I've been told it could be the center bearing in the driveshaft. Please post your findings.
Thanks,
Roger
